Purpose of the job

:


To lead the activities at the respective Service, identifying, developing and delivering social and recreational activities, events and outings both inside and outside the service with people we support to enhance their daily living.

Key responsibilities



To identify and organise a comprehensive activities programme in conjunction with individual person being supported, liaising with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, as well as with people and organisations outside the service. To undertake financial expenditure for social and recreational activities and events up to agreed limit, ensuring the successful implementation of the programme within budget limits. To work in partnership with people we support encouraging choice, participation, motivation, and risk taking in line with their person-centred plan. To be responsible for the day-to-day management of other activities roles ensuring that they maintain a high standard of work in line with all relevant regulations, policies and procedures. To take advantage of, and incorporate, community resources when planning programmes. Participate in reviews. To develop contact with other agencies involved in leisure and recreation, (e.g. places of entertainment, voluntary organisations and community linked projects) and maintain records of facilities available. To coordinate, motivate and encourage workers to take part in activities programmes. To recognise situations in which other professionals are required, seeking help as appropriate. To liaise closely with the Service Manager and/or Deputy Manager with regard to any change in the support needs of the person and any other matters of significance. To act as escort and/or driver on outings as required at the respective service. To comply with all health and safety policies and procedures. To comply with the organisations and any local safeguarding and mental capacity act (MCA) policies and procedures. To work within the regulatory compliance requirements applicable at the respective service. An awareness of individual risk assessments relating to specific support needs, for example, dysphagia, mobility and safety. To participate in supervision, staff meetings and training activities (including updates) as required, sometimes off-site and out of normal hours. To be responsible for maintaining and improving own knowledge and skills through experience and training. To undertake additional responsibilities as requested by the Manager following the successful completion of specific training and personal skills development. To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested.

Safeguarding Responsibilities





To support the managers to maintain a culture within the service where people's rights are respected and that they are protected from all forms of harm, abuse, and neglect, through strong and positive leadership. To support the manager to fully implement the organisations safeguarding and whistleblowing policies, ensuring the staff team know them, know where to find them and that they follow them. To report all safeguarding issues to your manager as soon as you become aware and in their absence to your Area Manager. To support the manager to ensure that where any harm is experienced by a person, they are made safe immediately and it is reported to the manager or Area Manager without delay. To support the manager to promote an open culture where staff and people supported feel safe and comfortable to report concerns without the fear of any reprisals. To read, sign and comply with the organisations Fundamental Standards without exception.

Person specification Essential requirements



To have or be working towards an appropriate level 3 qualification in activities would be advantageous. Demonstrable experience of researching, planning and organising activities. To be able to work flexibly in accordance with the needs of the service. To have a full, clean driving licence if driving is required. To have experience of working with people who have disabilities. To have experience of providing direct personal and social care. To have experience of supervising other staff. To have experience of working within a budget. To have knowledge of people we support self-advocacy and empowerment. To have a genuine commitment to the values and ethos of Dolphin Homes/Care.

Key competencies and skills



To have good interpersonal skills. To have good verbal and written communication skills. To be able to train, coach, motivate and develop a team as required. To be able to work on their own and as part of a team. To demonstrate an understanding of the needs of disabled people. To have knowledge of health and safety legislation. Able to complete and maintain accurate records, maintaining confidentiality at all times. To be able to use standard Microsoft IT packages.
