Job Description

Job Purpose

To plan, organize, and deliver a varied programme of engaging, person-centered activities that promote independence, learning, social inclusion, and well-being for adults with learning disabilities. The Activities Coordinator will work collaboratively with the support team, service users, families, and community partners to ensure all activities are meaningful, inclusive, and tailored to individual interests and abilities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Activity Planning and Delivery

Develop and deliver a stimulating timetable of daily activities both within the day center and in the local community (e.g. arts, music, cooking, exercise, life skills, educational workshops, volunteering, and leisure trips). Ensure all activities are person-centered, inclusive, and support individuals' personal goals and outcomes. Adapt activities to meet varying communication styles, abilities, and sensory needs. Encourage participation, confidence, and independence through positive engagement. Involve service users in planning and evaluating activity programmes.
2. Person-Centered Support

Build trusting relationships with individuals, promoting dignity, choice, and empowerment. Support individuals to express preferences and make decisions about their day-to-day activities. Work alongside support staff to ensure activities link to personal support plans and goals. Assist with support needs during activities when required (in line with training and policies).
3. Community Engagement

Establish and maintain links with local community groups, colleges, leisure centres, and cultural organisations to expand activity opportunities. Promote social inclusion through community-based activities, volunteering, and events. Support individuals to access public transport and local facilities safely and confidently.
4. Record Keeping and Evaluation

Maintain accurate records of attendance, participation, and progress. Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of activity programmes, gathering feedback from service users and staff. Contribute to care planning and reviews, providing updates on outcomes and achievements. Ensure all records comply with GDPR and organisational policies.
5. Health, Safety, and Compliance

Conduct and review risk assessments for all activities and outings. Follow health and safety, safeguarding, and infection control procedures at all times. Ensure all activities comply with the organisation's policies Report any incidents, concerns, or safeguarding issues promptly.
6. Teamwork and Professional Development

Work collaboratively with the wider staff team to deliver holistic, coordinated support. Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and training sessions. Contribute ideas for continuous improvement and service development. Uphold the organisation's values and promote a positive, inclusive culture.
Person Specification

Essential

Experience supporting or coordinating activities for adults with learning disabilities or similar needs. Creative, enthusiastic, and person-centred approach to planning activities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate and engage individuals with differing abilities. Reliable, flexible, and well-organised. Understanding of safeguarding, equality, and inclusion principles. Basic IT and record-keeping skills.
Desirable

Qualification in Health & Social Care, Community Development, or Activity Coordination (e.g. QCF Level 2/3). Experience in arts, music, sports, or therapeutic activity delivery. Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) or Total Communication approaches (e.g. Makaton, PECS). Full UK driving licence and willingness to drive service vehicles (if applicable).
