Job Description

Purpose



To provide a broad range of activities for the people we support that will aid their motivation and morale, promote independence and self esteem, and will assist them to develop the skills they need for daily life

What Are The Key Responsibilities?



To ensure the safety of the individuals at all times whilst enabling people who use our service to undertake activities of their choice

To provide activities that the individuals will enjoy and also expand their range of experiences and skills

To provide opportunities for mental and physical stimulation

To provide activities that are tailored to the needs and abilities of the individual, while also providing group activities that will bring the individuals together

Find the balance between arranging activities that the individuals like doing and activities that will expose the individuals to new experiences

Adhere to all Embrace policies and procedures, including compliance with Health and Safety, Security regulations

Keep up-to-date with any changes to policies, procedures or regulations that affect the service Take responsibility for your own personal development and attendance at training both mandatory and service specific

Support the Service Manager and service through attendance at marketing events, e.g. open days, fairs, sports days etc

Present the service in a positive light and be proactive in making suggestions for how to improve the service

Take responsibility for the safe working environment for yourself, colleagues and the people who use our service

Fulfil any duties requested by your manager

Activities: What Does The Job Holder Have To Do?



Arrange activities that are tailored to the needs and abilities of the people we support Arrange transport and accommodation for individuals outings where necessary Communicate with the individuals about what activities they would like to do

Prepare and implement a schedule of activities and tasks for the individuals

Complete risk assessments in order to manage the risks enabling the people who use our service to undertake activities of their choice

Liaise with external suppliers in order to provide entertainment and activities, for example, singers,

bands, community access groups etc

Provide assistance and support for individuals in attending classes and groups Ensure that all necessary materials are available for activities

Communicate all necessary information during handover Ensure that the approach to activities is tailored to the individual

Where appropriate teach the individuals skills for life, such as budgeting, travel (i.e. on public

transport), cooking, shopping, finding a job etc Offer encouragement where appropriate Document the aims and objectives of each activity

Assist with person centred planning where necessary Attend staff meetings

Reading, signing and actioning all new policies and communications

Relationships: Who Does The Job Holder Have To Work With?



On a day-to-day basis the Activities Co-ordinator will work with:

The people who use our service and the staff team within the service

Management including Deputy Manager, Regional Managers, Business Support Managers, depending on the service and other Service Managers within the Company

Friends and relatives who visit the people who use our service

Professional people, for example Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers, Psychiatrists, Chiropodists, Dentists, who provide services to the people who use our service either within the service or at their relevant practices

Regulators who visit the service to make standard regulatory checks and audits

Teachers, college staff and adult learning groups where the people who use our service attend courses (dependent on the service)

People within the local community who the people who use our service come into contact with during visits outside the service

Support Centre staff e.g. Property, Divisional Office staff, HR, IT, Finance

Domestic help e.g. cleaners, workmen, cooks who support the service (dependent on service) Purchasers/commissioners of services

Contractors who provide a service or carry out work in our services

Members of the public who are potential decision makers of people who could be using our service

Seeing the individuals smiling and enjoying themselves

When the individuals willingly participate in activities and enjoy them Seeing the individuals health improve through stimulating activities

Seeing the individuals develop the skills to do things that they weren't able to do before, seeing them achieve

Seeing the individuals develop friendships with other people Providing individuals with a better quality of life

What Are The Potential Challenges Of The Job?



The varying health conditions, needs and abilities of the clients

Low staffing levels can make facilitating activities difficult as some activities rely on other staff to be involved

Finding activities that will be stimulating and enjoyable for the majority of the individuals Encouraging individuals to engage in activities that are good for them

Setting up new activities, particularly if it relies on working with other groups within the community Assessing the aims and objectives of each activity and constantly thinking about what the individual will get out of the activity

Encouraging other support staff to be involved in activities

The role of Activities Coordinator can be a lonely one as you are the only person doing that role in the service

Encouraging people in the community to get involved and support activities Making ad-hoc changes to the schedule

The day can be very hectic

Running basic errands that may detract from the scheduled activities

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: 12.21 per hour
