We are seeking a compassionate and organized Activities Co-Ordinator to enhance the quality of life for residents in our residential living and long-term care facilities. The ideal candidate will plan and facilitate engaging recreational activities tailored to seniors, including those with range of mental health difficulties, dementia, or other care needs. This role requires a strong background in senior care, recreational therapy, and working with individuals with disabilities. The Activities Co-Ordinator will work closely with residents, families, and staff to create a vibrant, supportive environment that promotes socialization, mental stimulation, and overall well-being.
You will need to work 3 days in a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10-3pm). It is permanent part-time work 15hrs per week.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement a diverse calendar of engaging activities aligned with residents' interests and abilities, including social events, games, arts and crafts, music therapy, and outings.
Coordinate with nursing staff and caregivers to assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed.
Manage scheduling of activities to ensure consistent participation and accommodate individual preferences or limitations.
Provide specialized activities for residents with range of mental health needs, dementia, or memory impairments to promote cognitive engagement and emotional comfort.
Assist in counseling residents on aging issues and provide social work support when necessary.
Facilitate recreational therapy sessions designed to improve mobility, coordination, and mental health.
Monitor resident responses to activities and adjust plans accordingly to maximize participation and enjoyment.
Maintain accurate records of participation, resident preferences, and progress notes for care planning purposes.
Collaborate with families to incorporate personal interests into activity planning and provide updates on resident engagement.
Qualifications
Proven experience in event planning within assisted living, nursing homes, or long-term care settings.
Background in senior care, including Alzheimer's care, dementia care, or memory care is highly preferred.
Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in home & community care environments is advantageous.
Strong communication skills to effectively engage residents of varying cognitive levels and coordinate with staff and families.
Knowledge of caregiving practices related to ADLs assistance and aging issues counseling.
Ability to manage schedules efficiently while maintaining flexibility for resident needs.
Demonstrated ability to create inclusive activities that promote socialization, mental stimulation, and physical activity.
Compassionate attitude with a genuine interest in improving the quality of life for seniors through recreational programming.
