Activities Co Ordinator

Weston-super-Mare, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Purpose

Deliver a meaningful, person-centred activities and engagement programme that promotes wellbeing, choice and community connection for our residents.

What you'll do

Plan a structured weekly programme with a balanced mix of group and 1:1 sessions (cognitive, creative, physical, social, spiritual and sensory), tailored to life stories and individual preferences.

Complete simple risk assessments for activities and adapt sessions for differing abilities and needs.

Lead diverse sessions such as reminiscence, music and movement/chair-based exercise, arts and crafts, gardening, baking, films, quizzes, CST-style activities, sensory work, faith observance, inter-generational links and basic tech taster sessions.

Arrange outings: choose destinations, organise transport, set staffing ratios, complete dynamic risk assessments and capacity/consent checks, and record outcomes on return.

Book visiting activities: entertainers, pet therapy, community groups, faith leaders, volunteers, schools and colleges. Maintain a simple supplier/volunteer list and a forward calendar.

Co-ordinate events with the Head Chef: birthdays, seasonal celebrations and family days, ensuring menus, allergies, cultural requirements, hydration and snacks are planned and catered for.

Record attendance, engagement and outcomes on Log My Care; keep activity risk assessments and maintain the activity section of care plans. Produce a short monthly summary for audits.

Obtain, record and review photo/video consents in line with preferences and data protection requirements.

Promote inclusion and accessibility: offer alternatives for quieter preferences or those who benefit from 1:1, and ensure daily opportunities for meaningful occupation.

Gather resident and family feedback and use it to refine the programme. Contribute to care reviews as required.

Manage stock and a small budget for materials; keep activity areas safe, tidy and welcoming.

Work closely with care, kitchen and housekeeping teams; brief colleagues on daily plans, recruit "activity champions" and share simple prompts staff can use between sessions.

Uphold safeguarding, dignity and confidentiality at all times.

What you'll bring

Experience running activities (care home or community), with confidence leading groups and delivering 1:1 sessions.

Warm communication, patience, creativity and strong organisation; basic IT skills and accurate record-keeping.

Flexibility for some weekends and occasional evenings.

Understanding of person-centred dementia care and willingness to complete training.

Desirable

Activity-related training (e.g. NAPA), chair-based exercise, music or arts facilitation and escort experience/full driving license desirable.
