Centre of English Studies (CES) is a family-owned language school chain operating across seven cities in the UK and Ireland, with two schools in Canada. Founded in 1979, CES has over 30 years' experience teaching the English language to students from across the globe. CES Edinburgh is one of the newer school in the portfolio; having moved to our current, larger premises in 2014. We are now looking to recruit new team members for our busy and growing school. We provide English language education to both adults and young learners throughout the year with a large young learners Summer School here in Edinburgh. The Social Activities Leader (Yellow Shirt) role would suit someone with previous experience working in a customer-facing/interactive role, with excellent communication skills.
The CES Yellow Shirt Activity Team are responsible for delivering high quality, educational and entertaining activities and excursions for all students - ranging from local orientation tours and student inductions to full day excursions around Scotland. Yellow Shirts are required to be enthusiastic, professional, organised and knowledgeable representatives of our language school team. Yellow Shirts may be asked to work daytime, evening or weekend shifts according to the needs of the business. We are currently recruiting for our training and build up to our Junior Summer School 2025 from June to August, hosted at Edinburgh Academy Senior School, however this role will be available for application to those interested working beyond summer at our school on Manor Place. Work will be available in the months of spring in the lead up to summer. Full training and uniform will be provided. Please note that these are non-residential roles and some weekend work is required (normally Saturdays).
Responsibilities
Meeting groups or individuals at the airport and helping with taxi transfers, ensuring they reach their accommodation safely
Providing inductions and orientation tours for new students, or groups of students
Leading activities for students - this could be cultural activities within Edinburgh, sports and crafts, or excursions outside the city
Providing informative and accurate information about Edinburgh, Scotland and the wider UK
Liaising with adult leaders travelling with groups
Providing welfare support for students under the age of 18
Using the risk assessments provided on excursions and activities, and providing any updates as required
Providing basic emergency first aid support for students while on activities and excursions
Supervising lunchtimes and break times
Helping with queries and problems of students
Acting as an ambassador for the school and brand
Supporting the school team with duties as requested
Essential Criteria
Experience in a customer-facing role
Positive, cheerful and professional demeanour
Experience in working as part of a team
Knowledge of Edinburgh, its history, culture and surroundings
Passion for Scottish culture
Willingness to undergo a criminal background check
Desirable Criteria
Experience working with students under the age of 18, particularly from overseas or in a group environment
Previous experience within tourism or language schools
Experience in coaching or mentoring young people
Experience leading group tours around Scotland
Hobbies that could be used with young people (for example Music, Drama, Sports)
