This is an exciting opportunity to join the Blue Elephant family as an Activity Support Worker, supporting children who are not currently in formal education. Based at our Education Engagement Hub near our head office in Chivenor, you'll be working 1:1 with children who may feel disconnected from traditional learning environments.
Your role will be to spark curiosity, build confidence, and inspire our children to explore new experiences beyond their homes through tailored engagement plans, outdoor learning, and creative activities.
The aim of this role is to re-engage children who may feel disillusioned or disconnected from education. Many of the children you'll work with are not currently in formal schooling and may have complex emotional, social, or learning needs.
You'll play a vital role in helping them rediscover a sense of curiosity and confidence by introducing them to new experiences beyond the home. This includes designing and delivering personalised activity programmes, writing weekly progress reports, and participating in review meetings with the wider care and education teams around the child. Your creativity, consistency, and compassion will be key in helping each child take positive steps forward in their learning journey.
Part of your role may include:
Writing 'engagement programmes' for children which you will review with the tutor, the manager of their home and staff team
Working 1:1 with children helping them achieve milestones set out in their individual programmes
Creating and maintaining our forest school site
Taking children to different outdoor activities
Where qualified and trained, run outdoor education sessions
Complete all mandatory training
Ensure your CPD is up to date
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop and implement individualised activity plans.
Provide one-on-one and occasional group sessions.
Engage children in a range of activities.
Collaborate with the Engagement Tutor, Home Manager and external educational professionals.
Create a positive and engaging environment.
Support children with special educational needs.
Qualifications and key skills:
Experience working with children, particularly in a care setting.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for teaching.
Ability to adapt your methods to meet individual needs.
Understanding of trauma and how to adapt your practice to the needs of the children.
Benefits:
CPD and training opportunities.
Competitive rates of pay.
Professional development opportunities.
Supportive work environment.
Contribution to a meaningful cause.
The above job description is indicative and not exhaustive. An Activity Support Worker is expected to carry out all such additional duties as are reasonably commensurate with the role, at the direction and discretion of the Operations Manager.
Your line manager is our Engagement Tutor, who will complete regular supervisions with you with oversight of the Education Engagement Hub coming from our Operations Director.
