Purpose of Position



To assist the Day Services Manager in developing our day provision services and activities for people with learning difficulties and provide supervision of all learning disability client day services providing social and emotional support to service usersincluding assistance with feeding, toileting and hygiene. This will include hands-on assistance using appropriate moving and handling techniques or equipment as necessary to meet the assessed needs of each individual; at all times respecting his or her need for independence. A flexible approach is required to work across and support all areas of the day service provisions.

This is a multi-dual role and covers all aspects of our Day Centre provisions from Activities, outings, employability skills, daily living skills etc Duties will include assisting the Day Services Manager to manage and co-ordinate relevant staff to provide excellent outcomes for members attending. Helping members to socialise and extend networks through planned social and educational activities which will cater for individual choices,

Job role.



To liaise closely with the Day Services Manager on all aspects of 'The Meeting Place' service delivery.

To assist in monitoring and assessing quality of services; consulting effectively with service users and their carers/advocates.

To be responsible for providing a support service to people using the day centre that is welcoming and constructive.

To maintain confidentiality on all aspects of the service.

To maintain and enhance the independence and dignity of service users and promote positive public relations to the services and service users.

To attend to the physical, personal, social and emotional needs of the service users while promoting opportunities for choice, privacy, self-esteem and independence.

To attend to direct personal care including toileting, feeding and maintaining clean and safe work/activity areas.

To assist in implementing person centred planning ensuring information is current and accurate.

A willingness and flexibility to work off-site using community resources, depending on the needs of the service users, and planned activities and outings.

To look to innovative methods of working and services which promote and utilise personal skills and aptitudes, as well as those of colleagues, in the development of new and various activities/ projects,

To attend training sessions and courses to develop skills and knowledge on a continuous basis.

To communicate issues, individual as well as team training requirements, to management and offer motivation, support, advice and guidance to staff.

To assist in the support of students and work placements.

To assist the Day Services Manager in disseminating information regularly to all personnel and help in preparation of reports and updates on service delivery.

Driving duties e.g. conveying of service users involved in community based activities.

Assist in providing a work environment which is socially inclusive and which promotes equal opportunities for employees and service users wherever possible.

To demonstrate a commitment to assist in encouraging staff to find new ways and methods of working.

To work in a style which reflects the rights of service users to be treated as full and equal citizens.

To maintain and adhere to the highest standards of professional practice.

To be accessible and responsive at all times to service users' questions, concerns and requests for information.

To be enthusiastic in approach to the role and service with a flexible approach to hours and work setting.

Providing AL/Sickness cover in the academy, purchasing ingredients, budgeting and cooking to maximise daily living skills, support the community engagement officer with promoting employability skills.

Covering Annual Leave, Sickness, and Training:



As part of your role, you will provide support to adults with learning disabilities in areas such as cooking, daily living functions, and employability skills to promote independence. You will be required to cover shifts during staff annual leave or sickness, ensuring that service users continue to receive consistent and high-quality support in a safe and encouraging environment.

Additionally, you will actively participate in training and development programs to enhance your skills and understanding of best practices in supporting adults with learning disabilities. This will include attending relevant workshops and training sessions on topics such as promoting independence, supporting daily living tasks, and developing employability skills, all aimed at improving the quality of support provided to our service users.

Flexibility.



Your attention is drawn to the fact that in some cases particular duties and responsibilities are difficult to define in detail and may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties and level of responsibilities entailed. In addition, it is a requirement of all employees that they accept elements of flexibility in duties and responsibilities and, when necessary, interchange within the organisation in order to meet the changing needs and demands of the service. Such a requirement will enable the particular expertise of the post-holder to be developed and maximised to the mutual benefit of both employer and employee.

Skills and Abilities



Food hygiene Certificate level 2 a must but level 3 is desirable

H&S awareness including completion of Risk assessments

Effective organisational skills

The ability to work in a team

The ability to motivate self and service users.

The ability to plan and implement/evaluate weekly plans.

The ability to liaise with carers and professionals.

The ability to act on own initiative.

The ability to lead a team when necessary.

To be accountable for your workload and movements to your line manager.

Other duties.



To ensure the signing on of clients and visitors entering the centre and keep all clients and administrative records and log book entries as required.

To adhere to all policies and procedures.

To attend and participate in regular supervisions with your line manager.

To carry out any other reasonable activities and duties that are commensurate with the nature of the level of the post as requested by your line manager.
