In Actuarial we are problem solvers and strategic thinkers, who use mathematical skills to help measure the probability and risk of future events. Our work helps individuals to plan for the future, and it's always challenging and interesting.
As part of the Capital Market Group team, you will be involved in the more mathematically complex and programming-based roles of actuarial and banking work, requiring high levels of quantitative skills to solve challenging problems on behalf of our clients. There is a focus on research and development, with the team being responsible for the enhancement of Deloitte's economic scenario modelling suite: XSG, which helps us to determine probability.
You will also have opportunities to participate in the same projects as the wider life insurance team, allowing for a broad actuarial experience. The Capital Market Group team sits within the actuarial life insurance team, and together we serve a wide range of clients, across life and general insurance, asset managers and banks. Past projects have included: fast-paced mergers and acquisitions advisory, accounting transformations, and modelling impacts on insurers of risks arising from credit markets, operations and sustainability/climate change.
Capital Market Group, like the wider life insurance team, fosters an open and friendly working environment that naturally allows everyone to learn from the wide range of experts within the practice.

What kind of work will I do?
One of Capital Market Groups responsibilities is using, maintaining and developing XSG, which is Deloitte's in-house actuarial economic scenario generation software. This produces economic scenarios for clients to use in later modelling processes. You will be running and enhancing XSG's tools and methodologies, including opportunities to research potential improvements to modelling approaches and writing research papers on these. You will also deliver economic scenarios and training sessions to our clients, as well as any bespoke modelling adjustments and changes as requested by clients. This will involve handling a variety of market data, as part of your work estimating, reviewing and validating a range of model inputs and outputs. Capital Market Group also supports the wider life insurance team on a variety of projects. For instance, you may be advising insurance clients on the level of capital to hold and their capital structure, and in doing so helping to optimise their internal modelling processes. Or you may be supporting financial change programmes by identifying inefficiencies in our client's actuarial processes and collaborating with their people, to design and embed both better ways of working and new technology/solutions.
