Adamson Jones has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time patent attorney who wishes to further their career in a growing patent and trade mark attorney firm. In this role, you will be taking over a small practice of existing clients of the firm, as well as being supported to grow your own practice and team in one of our regional offices. The prospects for development of this role to partnership are excellent. This role is for a patent attorney with a background in electronics and software, with the ability to handle a wide range of subject matter, including mechanical, being advantageous.
Duties will include:
Patent attorney services for direct clients, usually UK-based, including:
+ Drafting of new patent applications
+ Prosecuting patent applications in the UK and Europe, and overseas via associates
+ Handling freedom-to-operate reviews and opinions
+ Providing associated patent advice Prosecution of UK and European patent applications for overseas associate clients
Supporting clients in the management of their patent portfolio and the development of their in-house IP management function
Working alongside other professionals in Gateley, such as solicitors and IP consultants, in providing a broader range of professional services to clients
Business development activities, including the growing of networks inside and outside of Gateley, strengthening existing relationships of the firm, and pitching to potential new clients

As part of Gateley, we work in a progressive arrangement alongside our colleagues in the wider Group to provide clients with the benefits of joined up thinking and can offer our clients a greater breadth and depth of IP services. As well as obtaining IP protection rights, we also assist in managing and maximising the value of our clients' IP portfolios to achieve their wider commercial goals, whether this relates to exit, licensing, generating investment or other commercial opportunities.

The person
We are looking for candidates with the following:
Qualification as a UK and European patent attorney
Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience
A background in electronics and software
Significant experience of direct client work, including drafting of new applications
Effective client communication and portfolio management skills
Enthusiasm for business development and networking
High level of professionalism and integrity
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
