The Mary Lyon Centre at MRC Harwell (MLC) https://www.har.mrc.ac.uk/ is located in an expanding science and innovation campus in Oxfordshire and is an internationally renowned centre at the forefront of genetics research. As the hub of the new National Mouse Genetics Network, the specialist facilities and capabilities of the MLC support a number of research groups across the UK to accelerate our understanding of human diseases, such as cancer, developmental disorders and neurodegeneration.

Overall Purpose:



We have an exciting opportunity at the Mary Lyon Centre at MRC Harwell (MLC) to join our Operations Team in the role of administrator, supporting the Events and Marketing Manager. We are looking for a motivated, hands-on, and positive individual with a can-do attitude.


The Advance training centre has been purpose built to deliver world-class practical and theoretical training courses. Containing two large meeting spaces, three breakout rooms, reception and two training laboratories, this facility not only hosts courses taught by the Mary Lyon Centre but is available for hire to external users and also hosts high-impact networking meetings. The typical footfall of the training centre is up to 100 people per week.


The post-holder will support the Events and Marketing Manager in the running of the Advance training centre to host training courses, symposiums and networking events, and to ensure that all available spaces are fully utilised.

Main Duties/Key Responsibilities:



Facilitate and support events and courses for both internal and external customers: event planning, on-the-day support, delegate registration, health & safety, catering, IT support, equipment and resource planning, and transport Manage the inbox and act as the main point of contact for internal and external customers Manage reception, including meet and greet, and carry out troubleshooting to meet customers' requirements Room planning and movement of equipment and furniture to meet visitors' requirements and ensure the best use of available space Procurement and receipt of essential day-to-day items Coordinate and help develop brochures/marketing material to publicise existing courses and increase stakeholder engagement Ensure that visitors' requirements are met, feedback and requests are dealt with and ideas for improvement are followed up General administration functions, including providing reports, manging office supplies, filing, catering, stock and equipment management and organising workspaces. Build relationships with external catering suppliers and internal departments Ensure GDPR compliance and that all correspondence is completed

Both internal and external users of Advance resources.

The post-holder will be required to have the appropriate level of security screening/vetting required for the role. Education/Qualifications/Training Required:



Essential:

GCSEs at grade C and above, or relevant qualifications in administration Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft packages

Previous Work Experience Required:



Essential:

Has worked within a customer-focused environment in an administrator role In-person hands on approach in an event management environment, delivering on stakeholder requirements and dealing with requests and changes efficiently
Desirable:

Dealing with scientific academic requests

Knowledge and Experience:

Administration experience working to deadlines Procurement
