Job overview

We are looking for an experienced or newly qualified Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist passionate about community-based care for adults with swallowing and communication disorders, to work across St Austell and surrounding areas. This post offers excellent opportunities for candidates to develop skills across a wide range of conditions such as stroke, progressive neurological diseases, voice, dysfluency, and dementia.



You will join a highly experienced and supportive team, well-regarded by service users and multi-disciplinary colleagues, and supported by a team of support workers and administrators. The team works flexibly to provide intervention across outpatient clinics, home, video, and telephone appointments. You will also have opportunities to work with colleagues in the acute trust and specialists from other disciplines, social care, and the voluntary sector, with regular access to video fluoroscopy clinics and a new FEES Service.



We are committed to personal, professional, and service development. We hold regular service improvement and governance meetings, with working parties involving all staff. We have regular supervision and appraisals, encourage self-directed learning, CEN membership and learning from others, including colleagues in other professions. We have also secured training for the whole team from national experts in response to developing clinical need.

Main duties of the job

To provide an Adult SLT service within the East locality, specifically to St Austell and surrounding areas in conjunction with other ASLT colleagues. In times of fluctuating demand the post holder may be required to work elsewhere in the West Team or within the service. To manage a caseload of patients using evidence based practice. To provide specialist Adult SLT assessment, diagnosis and treatment to adults presenting with communication and swallowing difficulties in hospital and the community setting. To assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions as an autonomous practitioner, with access to supervisory support. To liaise with multi-disciplinary teams and relevant care professionals and To provide on-going training to the multi-disciplinary teams and other agencies

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria

Current professional registration - HCPC Professional qualification, SLT qualification at degree level or equivalent. Work with adult patients presenting with a variety of disorders during training or post qualification

Desirable criteria

Dysphagia qualification or equivalent certified practice Ongoing CPD ie. Short courses,reflective practice, selfdirected study related to clinical area. #

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of developing and implementing a management plan during training or since qualifying Experience of working with AAC at a basic level #

Ability to select, administer and interpret specialist Speech and language therapy assessments Ability to undertake differential diagnosis, plan therapy and implement treatment approaches Ability to work competently with clients with different disorders, demonstrating the ability to translate theory into practice Ability to demonstrate emerging skills around caseload management and signposting patients to other services
