In this exciting role, you will utilise your advanced knowledge and skills to provide expert care to the children and young people along with their families and carers, who use CHAS. CHAS provides care to children and young people who may die young. You will support our delivery of palliative care and care around dying. You will create long lasting relationships with these children, young people and their families, making a valuable and meaningful impact.



In this role you will be seen as a clinical leader, you will champion CHAS and act as a role model to all our teams. We created our own ANP strategy in 2024 to guide the work of the whole team and the ANP team are working to deliver on this. The strategy promotes the 4 pillars of practice and the role is actively changing to meet the needs of the service whilst using the skills we recognise in our ANP team members.



This role will be based in Robin House and will support palliative care and care around dying in the Hospice, at home and in Hospitals. Our strategic aim is to reach more children and young people in every part of Scotland, and we are always looking at how we can do that better.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have the following-

A passion to make a difference, to share expertise and knowledge and to work collaboratively within CHAS and with our partner agencies. You will be a Registered Nurse / RN (Child) with a Master's level education to at least PGDip in Advanced Practice including V300 Non-medical prescribing certification. Direct care experience of delivering palliative and end of life care in hospital or hospice or home settings. Evidence of competence in the clinical skills relevant to palliative and end of life care delivery in CHAS. Experience of delivering training to others in a variety of setting Quality improvement methodology underpinning your practice.

What you will do

You will be 1 of 10 ANPs in CHAS. This post is based in Robin House in Balloch. As part of the team, you will contribute to a 7 day a week service from 0900 - 1800 each day, providing medical assessment, care and treatment to medically complex children and young people and their families.



Your role will encompass the 4 pillars of advance practice;

Clinical

Use clinical skills and expertise to deliver high quality medical care to the children and young people who use CHAS. Undertaking holistic assessment of the child and their family and developing a plan of care under the direction of our consultant team. Using prescribing skills to ensure medicine reconciliation is undertaken and is effective and appropriate, enabling both respite care and care around dying.


The role continues to grow and develop to meet the needs of our services.

Leadership

Act as an ambassador and champion for CHAS and act as a role model to others, sharing knowledge and skills to support the whole team in CHAS and with partners in NHS and HSCP settings. Liaising with other professionals to coordinate care. Sharing expert knowledge whilst recognising own limitations.

Facilitating learning

Each ANP contributes to the learning of others, this can be through opportunistic episodes or through formalised education sessions. We are developing more scenario based teaching sessions to support our teams to grow.

Evidence, Research and Development

Quality improvement is taking centre stage in our ambition to develop our services for the future, you will be seen as a leader in this changes using your advanced knowledge to lead on projects and grow your own skills in this area.

In CHAS we provide unwavering care to children, young people who may die young, and support their families. We are understandably proud of what we do but want to continue to improve.



Last year we had 800 admissions to our 2 Houses with 3204 bed nights. Our CHAS at Home teams undertook 1950 visits providing 6400 hours of care in the community and in hospital settings. These numbers will continue to grow as we meet our strategic aim of reaching more children, young people and families in every part of Scotland.
