To enable the Burgh Out of School Club to fulfil its aim of providing fun, quality out of school care in a safe environment which is affordable and accessible to the children of primary school age in the Galashiels area. The manager will also ensure all work is carried out to the highest standard in accordance with policies and procedures, National Care Standards and other relevant legislation and good practice guidelines.
Duties will include:
Responsibility for the daily running of the service whilst adhering to the club's Policies & Procedures and compliance with all relevant legislation, within the requirements and guidelines laid down by The Care Inspectorate.
Care and supervision of children with regard to their physical, emotional & intellectual needs.
Preparing and organising safe and appropriate activities for all ages and abilities in line with equal opportunity considerations.
Providing drinks and snacks.
Ensuring the preparation, care, cleanliness and maintenance of the playroom, kitchen area, toilet area and equipment is carried out according to Policies & Procedures and risk assessments.
Liaising and communicating effectively with parents/carers, school staff and other professionals as required.
Ensuring confidentiality is maintained.
Reviewing and updating all policies and procedures as required.
Attend relevant meetings and training courses and reporting to other staff and the committee on a regular basis.
Having key-holder responsibility.
Supervision of staff and any students, conducting regular staff assessments, recognising training needs, monitoring training and developing teamwork.
Carrying out accurate administrative and monetary record keeping including; registers, fee collection, accident & incident records, risk assessments and petty cash transactions in line with policies & procedures.
Arranging regular information for parents, and to advertise and promote the service.
Providing assistance to the committee for their completion of annual returns, funding applications and other necessary paperwork as required.
Keeping up to date with current local and national policy developments in childcare.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Education, Qualifications, Training
Essential:
SVQ 4 or equivalent with a willingness to work towards a BA in Childhood Practice
SSSC Registration - or registration within 4 months
Elementary Food Hygiene certification or willingness to obtain
Relevant first Aid certification or willingness to obtain
Experience/Skills/Knowledge
Essential:
Experience of working with children and promoting positive behaviour
Working as part of a team with ability to manage and motivate others
Developing and maintaining relations with service users and colleagues
Developing, implementing and ensuring compliance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements
Experience of administrative duties and recording monetary transactions
Good working knowledge of the Care Inspectorate
Knowledge of non-discriminatory practice, child protection legislation and governance requirements.
Understanding of regulatory and inspection frameworks
IT skills including Word, Excel, emails and social media
Knowledge of all relevant legislation
Desirable:
Experience of working in the voluntary sector with a volunteer committee.
