After School Club Practitioner

Job Description

Little Explorers Eastry are looking for a practitioner to support our after school club within our busy nursery. We provide after school care for primary age children. The practitioner will be responsible for supporting the safe, engaging, and inclusive care of children during after school provision. The role involves planning and delivering stimulating activities, ensuring children's wellbeing, and maintaining a positive, supportive environment in line with our setting and safeguarding policies. During quiet sessions the practitioner will also work with nursery aged children.

Key Responsibilities



Childcare & Supervision

Provide high-quality care for children aged 4-11 in an after-school setting Supervise children at all times, ensuring their safety and wellbeing Promote positive behaviour and manage behaviour in line with setting policies Build positive, respectful relationships with children Support preparing and delivering snacks and tea
Activities & Play

Plan and deliver a range of fun, age-appropriate activities (e.g. creative, physical, quiet play) Encourage children's social development, independence, and confidence Support children with homework or reading where required
Safeguarding & Welfare

Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, and child protection procedures Report any concerns about a child's welfare in line with safeguarding policy Ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment Follow all safe eating procedures and adhere to healthy eating policies
Teamwork & Communication

Work effectively as part of a team Communicate professionally with parents, carers, and school staff Attend staff meetings and training as required
Administration

Complete registers, accident forms, and daily records as needed Support setting-up and clearing away of equipment and resources Collect children from the local primary school (2 minute walk)

Person Specification



Essential

Experience working with children A caring, patient, and enthusiastic approach Ability to work as part of a team Good communication skills Understanding of safeguarding and child welfare Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check and additional training such as food hygiene
Desirable

Relevant childcare qualification (e.g. Level 2 or 3 in Childcare) Experience working in a nursery, after-school club or school setting First Aid qualification (or willingness to train)

This role is

term time only

Hours are 3-6pm weekdays The post is subject to satisfactory references and enhanced DBS clearance Pay is from 12.30 per hour depending on qualifications and experience
