Job Description


THE ROLE:

The Agricultural Economist will conduct and contribute to studies to assess the economic outcomes and impacts of CABI\xe2\x80\x99s agricultural and environmental work. She/he will work closely with CABI staff and country partners to carry out studies related to agriculture, invasive species, ICTs, integrated pest management, and extension/ communication methods. Work may include the use of bio-economic modelling, cost benefit, social network and systems analyses, value for money assessments and other appropriate methods. She/he will contribute to different aspects of studies, from design to data instrumentation, planning and facilitating training and supervising of field staff and fieldwork.

WHAT YOU\xe2\x80\x99LL DO:

  • As part of the project team you will, conduct and support surveys and research to assess the outcomes and impact of CABI\xe2\x80\x99s work on project beneficiaries.
  • Support socio-economic assessments of CABI\xe2\x80\x99s agricultural and environmental projects and programmes, including use of econometric analysis, economic modelling, cost benefit and cost effectiveness analyses, and ecosystem service valuation methods.
  • Contribute to the writing of journal articles, working papers, and other scholarly publications.
  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesis.
ABOUT YOU:
  • Broad understanding of agricultural/environmental and rural development.
  • Good knowledge of economics of agricultural and environmental risks e.g. invasive species, high impact pest introductions.
  • Good knowledge of agricultural, environmental or development economics.
  • Good knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods and statistical analyses.
  • Fluency in English, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
