We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Air Freight Supervisors at the 727 Air Mobility Squadron , Royal Air Force (RAF) Mildenhall, United Kingdom.

What will be your primary role?



The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Aeiral Port Freight Loader and Cargo Processor. To supervise personnel in performing general loading and off-loading of cargo aircraft, restraining cargo onboard aircraft using tiedown chains and devices, straps, nets and pallet rail mechanisms. To perform warehousing duties and operate motor vehicles, material handling equipment, forklifts and cargo loaders of all sizes up to and including vehicles with a gross weight of more than 32K and 60K capacity loaders.

The successful applicant will be responsible for supervising a team of 5 or more civilian, military and trainee aircraft loaders in the performance of aircraft freight loading and ground support duties, you will also be responsible for performing a broad range of standard receiving assignments, verifying shipments by checking shipping documents, and performing duties as a load and, or servicing team member, loading/off-loading/re-sequencing military and civilian aircraft. You will operate gasoline, diesel or electric vehicles typically with a gross weight of over 32,000 pounds and material handling equipment used to load/unload cargo and service aircraft latrine/water systems. You will also program the movement of cargo, to include special cargo involving dangerous/hazardous materials, out of the aerial port for expeditious movement to its final destination.

What are the Key Skills required for this role?



1. Knowledge of cargo aircraft systems, configurations, equipment, emergency procedures, preflight inspection procedures, location of electrical power connections, circuit breakers, hydraulic operating system, and serviceability requirements.

2. Knowledge of cargo aircraft capacity and limitations, floor load restrictions, shoring, restraint requirements, use of load charts and graphs as applied in consideration of weight and balance factors during preparation of load plans to provide the optimum center of gravity throughout the flight.

3. Knowledge of cargo/vehicle preparation procedures for loading and handling/placement of hazardous cargo, as well as knowledge in manifesting and shipping documentation requirements, cargo tie-down requirements, cargo inspection requirements, and cargo protection methods.

4. Skill to direct crews when loading aircraft according to weight and balance factors, cargo destination and emergency jettison plans.

5. Ability to interpret and communicate technical orders and other published guidance, follow checklists and apply safety regulations, practices and procedures.

6. Ability to operate motor vehicle; heavy motor vehicles, K-Loaders, forklifts, tugs, prime movers, and tow vehicles or various sizes and capabilities, and to perform routine vehicle operating servicing.

What are the conditions of employment for this role?



1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.

2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.

3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.

4. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.

5. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

6. This is a drug testing designated position, and the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.

7. You must be able to work at elevated heights, p to 237" off the ground and be able to climb aircraft stairs.

8. Work requires the employee to operate a motor vehicle, a valid, in-date category B driving license is required.

9. You will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination and may be required to receive vaccinations as an occupational health precaution due to potential exposure to bio-medical hazards.

10. Shifts are 4 x 05.30 start to 14.30 finish, 2 days off, 4 x 14.00 start to 23.00 finish, 2 days off.
