Alternative Provision Mentor based at Mowmacre (LE4) & Lutterworth (LE17)
Purpose of the Role
To provide high-quality mentoring, guidance and support to pupils attending the Alternative Provision, helping them to overcome barriers to learning, develop positive relationships, and engage successfully in education. The role places a strong emphasis on using sport, coaching, and positive activities to build engagement and confidence, alongside specialist support for pupils with SEN and those displaying challenging behaviour.
Key Responsibilities
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a consistent and supportive role model.
Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring sessions.
Use sport, physical activity and coaching approaches to motivate and inspire pupils, supporting both physical and emotional wellbeing.
Support pupils with SEN, tailoring mentoring approaches to meet individual learning and developmental needs.
Apply de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies to respond to challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent, trauma-informed way.
Support pupils in accessing learning activities, both in the provision and during reintegration to mainstream or other educational settings.
Work closely with teaching staff to adapt approaches that meet the needs of individual learners.
Encourage and motivate pupils to achieve personal, social and academic goals.
Promote safeguarding and wellbeing at all times, following school and statutory procedures.
Record and report on pupil progress, incidents and interventions in line with policies.
Participate in staff training, supervision and team meetings.
