Role Overview



We are looking for a compassionate and adaptable Alternative Provision Mentor to support learners from

primary school age through to post-16

who are disengaged from mainstream education. You will deliver 1:1 and small group mentoring that builds confidence, emotional resilience, and readiness for learning or employment.

Key Responsibilities



Provide tailored mentoring to learners aged 7-19, including those in Key Stages 2-5.

Support primary-aged children with emotional regulation, social skills, and re-engagement with learning.

Deliver sessions that promote personal development, life skills, and employability.

Build positive, trusting relationships with learners and act as a consistent role model.

Work closely with schools, families, and professionals to ensure a joined-up support plan.

Maintain accurate records and contribute to learner progress reviews and planning.

Promote progression pathways including re-integration into school, alternative education, and vocational routes.

Essential Criteria



Experience working with children and young people.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport quickly.

Confidence in managing behaviour with empathy and consistency.

A trauma-informed and person-centred approach to mentoring.

Desirable



Experience supporting learners with SEND, SEMH, or ACEs.

Knowledge of local education and employment pathways.

Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, or mentoring.
