Role Purpose
We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable teacher to deliver
functional and accessible English and Maths
lessons to small groups or 1:1. This role is ideal for someone passionate about alternative education, with a flexible approach and a strong commitment to pupil wellbeing and progress.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver creative, engaging English and Maths lessons suited to individual student needs, abilities, and EHCP outcomes (where applicable)
Build strong, trusting relationships with students, using a nurturing and trauma-informed approach
Track and report academic progress, setting achievable learning goals and celebrating small steps
Collaborate with the wider team to ensure consistency of care, safeguarding, and behavioural support
Support students' emotional and social development alongside their academic learning
Help develop and maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment
Person Specification
Essential:
Teaching qualification (QTS, QTLS, or other relevant qualifications/experience)
Experience working with students with SEMH, SEND, or those disengaged from mainstream education
Strong subject knowledge in Maths and/or English (KS3 and KS4)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work flexibly and independently in a small team environment
Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable children
Desirable:
Experience in alternative provision, PRU, or tuition-based settings
Familiarity with Functional Skills or Entry-Level qualifications
Training in trauma-informed or restorative practice
Ability to differentiate effectively for mixed-ability learners
