Working hours are Monday - Friday, working flexibly between 07:00 - 19:00

The purpose of the post is to provide expertise within the Chemical Process Development area, working with regulatory starting materials, reagents and intermediates.

The role is predominantly laboratory based, involving analytical method development and validation activities associated with small molecule APIs, using traditional and modern analytical techniques.

Job Role

  • Support process chemistry with sample analysis to build reaction understanding
  • Support analytical activities to build product fate and purge understanding and impurity control
  • Analytical support for onsite organic chemists during synthetic route development
  • Evaluate new technologies to support method development, increasing the analytical capability of the Chemical Process Development group
  • Participate in the analytical transfer of developed processes to client recipient groups and vendors, providing technical support and troubleshooting advice
  • Interface across CPD functional areas to support and execute analytical activities through the \'cloud\' network.
  • Identify any opportunities for improvement of quality and service and work with the wider team to implement continuous improvement
  • Ability to quickly learn new processes. Take initiative to become local expert in areas where there is a gap in knowledge
  • Ability to form strong working relationships with colleagues
  • Ability to work on own initiative and capable of developing solutions to problems as part of a team
  • Willing to operate in a flexible manner and able to switch priorities at short notice
Qualifications
  • A Degree in Chemistry or a related discipline is required
  • 3-4 years experience
  • Good understanding of organic chemistry
  • Method development experience in HPLC and GC. Spectroscopy, Karl Fischer & Titration analysis experience is desirable
  • Experience in the use of LC-MS & GC-MS would be of advantage
  • Strong practical and analytical skills in a laboratory setting
  • Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot
  • Collaborative attitude and strong interpersonal skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are essential
  • Able to document work clearly and concisely, as well as understand and describe data / findings to others using the correct scientific language
  • Proficient in using electronic media, including MS Office and experience in use of electronic laboratory notebooks would be of advantage
  • Ability to work to high safety standards
  • Good organisational and planning skills, and an ability to deliver to agreed time and quality
