Animal Care Assistant
Job Description
Bicester Vets are looking for an Animal Care Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team. Animal Care Assistants work in a close-knit unit to support the entire veterinary team and help build the foundations of the day-to-day running of the practice.
Tasks will include:
Maintaining cleanliness standards including infection control
Cleaning, packing and preparing surgical equipment for use
Setting up the operating theatre and opening sterile equipment for laparoscopic and orthopaedic surgeries
Assisting vets and nurses with animal handling and restraint
Running samples in the in-house laboratory
Assisting with stock control and rotation
Supervising work experience students
The right applicant should be passionate about caring for animals in the veterinary environment, with a desire to progress onto veterinary nursing in the future.
Hours of work involve alternating weeks of 8am-4pm, 10am-6pm and 2pm-10pm, plus every third Saturday 8am-2pm.
You will require:
5 GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above to include English Language, Maths and Science.
A further qualification, such as A levels or NVQ/Diploma Level 3.
Previous animal handling experience is preferred.
