Overview

You'll be more than just an animal care assistant. Whether you are a beginner with basic knowledge or experienced keeper, your role you will play a vital part in ensuring the health and well-being of animals in our expanding, specialist reptile and exotic animal retail store. Those that have more experience, we hope will quickly take on individual responsibilities. It is hoped that candidates with plenty of hands on industry knowledge will quickly fill a supervisory role where you'll be expected to handle emails, messaging and social media posts, carry out tasks set by management in their absence and support the other staff.

No matter your skill set or experience level, primarily your position will involve a combination of animal care, customer service and store maintenance.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about exotic animal care and possess the ability to handle various tasks related to the husbandry of these specialist animals. You should show a willingness to work hard and to complete tasks effectively and efficiently. You'll work along side our experienced team where we hope you will take full advantage of their knowledge to progress with in our business.

Great communication skills are a must. It is crucial that you communicate well with the team around you and when your level of knowledge allows, you will be dealing with the public in a sales and advisory role.

Responsibilities

Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, cleaning and performing health checks. In any one day you will be expected (with training if needed) to work with, Snakes, Spiders, Lizards, Amphibians, Tortoises and various other invertebrates.

Maintain cleanliness and organisation within the entire shop.

Perform heavy lifting as required for moving animals or equipment.

Experienced applicants, will provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with animal owners regarding their animals' needs.

Assist with administrative tasks such as record keeping and social media posts.

Supporting management in daily tasks.

For the more experienced. Once settled it is expected that you will have the necessary skills and confidence to take charge of the daily running of the store in the absence of the manager.

Skills

Basic knowledge of animal care practices and behaviours especially reptiles.

Good communication skills.

Confident working on small ladders and comfortable working in a warmer than average environment.

More experienced applicants.

Excellent communication and customer service skills, both verbal and written to interact positively with customers and team members, both in store and online.

Experience or training in animal management, retail sales is highly desirable.

Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Full clean driving licence is desired.

This role is ideal for individuals who are dedicated to animal care and want to learn more about this niche industry. If you have the ability to be able to adapt and change to assist in various roles in the company, work hard, have good time management skills and love a challenge in a sometimes fast pace environment, then you could be a perfect fit for us and our in store team.

Working days are Monday-Sunday, 5 days a week including one weekend day either Saturday or Sunday.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent. Part time would be considered for the right candidate.
