Job Description

The Animal Care Assistant will provide care and welfare within the Animal Care Team to deliver outstanding aspects for RSPCA Woodside.

Whilst ensuring that our animals are the focus of our service, the postholder will uphold the charity's high standards and ensure that their team are maintaining and working within current regulations and guidelines set out for the charity.

Key Responsibilities



Ensuring all animal accommodations and equipment is cleaned to approved standards, with appropriate clean bedding and a constant supply of fresh water. Preparing and/or administer vaccinations, microchips, worming, defleaing products, drugs and medications which have been prescribed by veterinary surgeon. Undertaking health checks at the time of admittance or on a weekly basis, this must include eyes, ears, nose, teeth, mouth, feet, legs, coat, skin, anus, genitalia and tail (health checks). Administering first aid to any animal on site as and when required. Assisting and restraining appropriately any animal for inspection by a vet or a member of staff, this must also include an animal for euthanasia. Bathing and grooming animals with the correct equipment. Observing each animal in the centre and reporting any problems or concerns to the line manager. Exercising the animals where appropriate. Ensuring the animal is always kept under control. Completing regular behavioural assessments of animals. To be trained to red dot handler within 12 months in post. Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of your line manager or the CEO.

Commitment to own personal development, completing role specific and mandatory training within agreed deadlines. Supporting and guiding new volunteers in their roles. Ensuring all activities are carried out in line with GDPR (data protection), safeguarding guidelines and legal/Woodside/or RSPCA society regulatory policies.

Person Specification



Desire to work within the animal care sector. Controlled: in an environment where no day is the same, you will be calm and able to respond in a crisis. Pragmatic approach to animal welfare. Excellent communication. Committed to own professional development. High integrity and openness. Team Player. Can do attitude. Willingness to help. Willingness to deal with the general public.

Hours:

Part-time - hours to be confirmed. Will include some weekend working on a rota. There are two positions available.
