Hard-working & conscientious rabbit-lover sought.

12.21-12.75 basic hourly rate pending training, with extra pay (1 or 2 ph extra, depending) available for certain overtime/weekend hours. Bunnysitting opportunities may also be available, after training.

6 month initial contract, after 1 week's trial period. Contract may be renewed, or made permanent, depending on our needs at that time, and employee performance.

About us

A small charity based at home with rescued rabbits near Bungay- we need an additional caring assistant(s) to ensure they receive the wonderful care they deserve.

We need a caring, observant, conscientious, reliable, dilligent, physically strong and very energetic assistant with keen attention to infection control to help look after them, who is also happy and confident to drive 1 hour each way to go to the vets in your own vehicle (business use insurance and mileage paid).

You would be joining a small dedicated team of friendly bunny care assistants who will help show you the ropes.

Days & times required:

35h per week, including Saturdays. 7.30am to 2.30pm (sometimes we may need to as you to work on the Sunday instead of the Saturday, with notice).

The position is initially for 6 months. Depending on the charity's needs and the candidate's performance, the contract may be renewed or made permanent, depending on needs closer to the time.

Additional hours may be available, especially as holiday/sickness cover, as well as overtime.

Bunnies live in large outdoor "aviary"/stable type enclosures, as well as indoors, so they need a lot of careful cleaning, water changing etc.

This is more akin to the work of looking after horses, so for your own health and safety, as well as your suitability for the role, you must be physically healthy, fit and strong with a lot of stamina and energy. Eg you may have to carry a dozen 20kg hay/grass bales some distance to put them away upon delivery, and lift heavy binbags into industrial size bins daily, so it is not suited to someone with back issues. This role is probably not suitable for someone with allergies, due to all the fluff, dust, hay, grass etc you'll be working with. You will also be working with strong disinfectants -full PPE is provided - you'll have to wear gloves a lot of the time, which some people find irritates their skin, if sensitive.

Experience of medicating rabbits an advantage as this is an important part of the role although training will be provided.

Ideal candidate will have experience of medicating bunnies and will be keen to learn.

The ability to take instruction on board positively, and with a good attitude to learning, is essential.

Must be a good team player.

Must be willing and able to drive with at least 3 pet carriers strapped into your own car (with seat belts) to go on vet runs to our vets which are an hour away (so a 2 hour /60 mile return driving trip). You must be a safe, confident, driver with lots of experience of comfortably driving similar distances.

Must be able to prove you have a full clean driver's licence for at least 2 years since qualifying, and have no at-fault accidents for the past 2 years.

Love of, and experience of, working with animals is essential.

Position is initally for 6 months. Availability of a further contract or permanent role depends on our needs at the time, as well as the employee's performance.

Successful applicants will initially be invited for a short tryout, potentially followed by a trial week (to be spread out over your availability, if needed).

To apply, it is essential to send

-- a covering letter

-- cv, with references

explaining why you are interested in the role and why you would make a great addition to the team.

- -talk about your previous/current work or voluntary experience of working with animals, especially rabbits.

- This is a very demanding role, emotionally and physically. Please explain in your application covering letter why you believe you will be up to this strenuous role.

--detail all the hours you have available each week.

-- answer all questions, including your availability for a short tryout.
