Reporting to:
Head of Nursing Services
We're looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, caring and conscientious individual to join us as an Assistant in our Small Animal Veterinary Nursing Team. Ideally, you will join us having already gained at least 1 year of experience in a similar veterinary environment to ours. We will complement your experience by giving you a structured training and development program from day one
.
About Us
We are a large, independent veterinary practice with a great reputation in the local community. Based just outside the village of Hook Norton, we've been caring for pets, farm animals, and horses across Oxfordshire and beyond for over 40 years.
Our Small Animal Hospital is open 24/7, offering everything from routine check-ups and vaccinations to surgery and emergency care. Alongside the hospital, we have three branch practices, plus dedicated teams for farm and equine care and our equine clinic.
What You'll Be Doing
This role is working alongside our Small Animal Team and offers lots of variety, where no two days are the same. You'll be right at the core of the action, helping our nursing and vet teams provide exceptional care. Being at ease with animals is essential, but being able to interact well with humans is equally important.
#
Your day-to-day could include:
Helping with animal handling and patient care,
Prepping surgical areas and supporting in theatre,
Assisting in hospital wards, consult rooms, pharmacy and lab,
Supporting our mobile vets out in the community,
Ensuring our clinical areas stay spotless and well-stocked,
Supporting with admin, infection control, and much more.
Given the nature of the job, it's important to be comfortable managing a range of emotions. The cases we deal with can be intense, covering everything from urgent emergencies to end-of-life care. As an Animal Nursing Assistant, you'll be physically active and on your feet most of the day.
What We're Looking For
Whilst animal care qualifications are helpful, your veterinary experience and a positive, can-do attitude are way more important.
#
To thrive here, you'll need to be:
A good communicator - clear, calm, and kind.
Fast to learn and quick on your feet.
Focused, detail-oriented, and always ready to muck in.
Positive, proactive, and a true team player.
If you have a desire to continue working in a veterinary environment, enjoy being part of a hardworking, friendly team, and are ready to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in, we want to hear from you.
A Few Practical Bits
You'll need to live within 30-40 minutes of Hook Norton (OX15 5DG)
Own transport is essential, we're rural!
Shifts can start as early as 7:00 am and finish as late as 2:00 am, including some weekends.

Branded uniform provided
