This is a role suitable for someone with both management and animal welfare experience.
You will be a champion of animal welfare. In this role, you will lead on the development and implementation of our animal welfare strategy, putting protecting and supporting animals at the forefront of everything we do.
You will take a lead on the expansion of our existing animal welfare offering, as well as driving the growth and development in this. In this role, you will look to the future of RSPCA Sheffield, seeking and implementing innovative ways to improve animal welfare. This could include: education, staff development, service expansion, collaboration with other charities and more. You will be a strategic, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking individual, seeking to not only continue the great work of the RSPCA Sheffield but to take us toward our next chapter.
As well as being key to our development, this role will also require you to lead our existing animal welfare offering. This means that you will line manage our two Animal Care team, who are responsible for the day-to-day care of the animals we house. You will support the team with staffing, rotas, recruitment etc., as well as identifying and acting on possible development opportunities. You will also identify opportunities to improve and refine our existing service, such as by implementing training or introducing new service offerings and development.
You will be a member of the Management and Leadership Team, requiring acting up and decision making at a management level. You will hold lead responsibility for all decision making regarding the animals in our care, as well as being the chief liaison for the National RSPCA Inspectorate and animal welfare related public liaison.
You will be expected to adhere to KPIs, fundraising targets and submit regular reports, as well as supporting your team to do so.

To be a key member of the RSPCA Sheffield management team, acting to support other members of the team, providing cover and decision making at a management level
To hold responsibility for meeting the animal welfare objectives of the RSPCA Sheffield branch
To work symbiotically with the other arms of the charity such as operations, income etc
To be strategically minded identifying opportunities for the growth of the charity
To line manage relevant team members with an effective, inspiring, and positive manner
To be a key decision maker in decisions relating to animal welfare, including sometimes difficult and upsetting decisions
To meet assigned targets e.g., KPIs, fundraising etc and deliver regular reports to other members of the SLT
To liaise with stakeholders, the Inspectorate and other charities to drive the charity to meet its objectives
To monitor changes in law and policy relating to animal welfare, and appraising the wider charity with these changes
To develop and implement outreach services

To empower staff growth and development of their own ideas, goals etc
To support staff to with challenging decision making (e.g. euthanasia) or managing difficult circumstances
To ensure all Animal Care staff are compliant with statutory training requirements and legal requirements.
To maintain up to date and accurate records
To order equipment and supplies and monitor stock levels and usage
To manage the departmental budget
To act as day-to-day lead with partnerships
To ensure best value for money
To identify opportunities for development of staff as well as staff practice
To research innovative techniques in animal care and to implement these where appropriate
To develop possible fundraising and/or outreach opportunities and working collaboratively with other members of staff to deliver on these
To work with other charities and animal welfare organisations to support best practice for all
To refine and improve our current animal welfare offering
To manage and ensure the effective organisation of our adoption and fostering procedures
To ensure an effective and efficient rescue service is always available for those who need it
To identify areas that can be improved with new technologies or processes
To know out customer services and animal welfare 'inside and out' to provide effective and detailed guidance to staff and customers, as well as to identify trends to be actioned
To implement our animal welfare strategy

To manage projects related to the expansion of our animal welfare offering, such as: the development of a public educational programme, expansion of our existing facilities
Able to identify project goals, objectives, and scope and creates a project plan that outlines the tasks, timelines, and resources required, ensuring that projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
To work collaboratively with appropriate team members in the development and implementation of strategy and projects
To be ambitious, but realistic, about the potential of the future of the RSPCA Sheffield, always with the consideration of cost vs benefit
To assist with the recruitment of new staff members to support the development of the RSPCA Sheffield and to meet our charities objectives
To be prepared to step outside of your comfort zone to support the implementation of projects that may not be directly related to your role, but benefits the charity overall
To collaborate with other members of the organisation; working symbiotically to most effectively and efficiently meet our objectives
Establish excellent working relationships with stakeholders, other branches of the RSPCA and the RSPCA Inspectorate to support interorganisational working and best practise
To manage relationships with other stakeholders, such as the Sheffield City Council and Cat's Protection, to nurture a positive and effective working relationship
To develop and nurture relationships with other animal welfare charities, with the intent of creating supportive relationships for the benefit of all animals
To develop relationships with non-animal related charities. In particular those representing marginalized groups, to support us and enhance the potential of more targeted outreach to groups the charity may have more trouble reaching
To always seek the best practice and dedicate everything we can to improve animal care
To support in the expansion of strategic areas including fostering and influencing
To maintain standards in all areas of work, including licensing and standard procedures
