9.58 hours per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time role within the Register Office. You will be based in the Register Office in Bridgend and work as part of an established and very supportive team. You will undertake all aspects of registration including, registering births, deaths, marriages, taking notice of marriage and civil partnership and issuing archive certificates. Experience of working within a registration environment is needed for this role although additional training will be given. You will have a dedicated Principal Registrar who will support you in every step of your training and we are all always on hand to support you.
The Register Office team work seven days a week but with advanced notice of weekend workings wherever possible. You will be expected to work regular weekends throughout the summer ceremony season with additional duties during the week. You may be called upon to work at short notice to cover periods of illness so a flexible approach to work is essential. The Register Office never stops!! You will have regular weekly hours in a fortnightly pattern with office and home working arrangements.
We welcome everyone through the doors of the Register Office so excellent communication skills are essential especially when dealing with sensitive and emotional issues. We look for a confident manner in our registrars as you will be addressing large groups of people at ceremonies and will need to do this with authority to ensure statutory requirements are met. Attention to detail is vital when creating historical records, the registrations you create will go down in history and last people a lifetime and beyond with records dating back to 1837. We have modernised slightly over the years so an aptitude for IT is advantageous as is an organised approach to work. You never know what people are going to tell you during a registration so confidentiality must be second nature for a successful registrar.
You will be based in the Register Office but will also travel throughout the County Borough of Bridgend to attend ceremonies in our licensed venues, Churches and Chapels so the ability to drive and access to your own vehicle is essential. If you have the ability to communicate in Welsh, this would be an advantage in your application.
