Butcher apprentices learn how to butcher meat by learning about the tools and techniques used in the trade.
One of the many tasks performed as a butcher is cutting meat. They must weigh the meat and make sure it is of the right size to be sold. They also have to wrap it in some sort of material and put it out for display.
The butcher is a skilled tradesman who can cut meat using a variety of tools. They know the intricacies of animal anatomy and use this knowledge to perform successful cuts. You will also gain a level 2 qualification in:
Food hygiene
Health and Safety in the workplace
Knife skills
Assist experienced butchers in the preparation and cutting of various meats, including beef, pork and poultry, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
Learn and apply proper sanitation and hygiene practices in the processing area.
Participate in the training and execution of meat, preparation techniques, including deboning, trimming and portioning.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the work area, tools and equipment.
Engage in customer service by providing guidance and product knowledge to customers regarding meat selections.
Support inventory management and stock replenishment as needed.
Hours: 42.00 per week
About the employer:
We are a family run Butchers/Bakery. We have no website, solely work on face to face or telephone/email customer contacts.

Career progression within the butchery is easily achievable either into management rolls or taking your experiences and skills out into the niche world of butchery outside of this business.
Training Provided:
You will attend Exeter College one day per month to work towards your Butcher Level 2 Apprenticeship.
Additional Information:
Maximum of 40hr working week for under 18yr olds.
GCSE or equivalent 4/c or above in Maths and English.
