As an Electrical Engineering Apprentice at The Pirbright Institute, you will be an integral part of our dynamic team, contributing your passion for electrical engineering to projects that push the boundaries of scientific discovery.

What does the job role involve?
Electrical and Instrumentation Control Systems Maintenance
Work closely with experienced electrical engineers to conduct routine maintenance and calibration on electrical/ instrumentation control systems and equipment.
Gain hands-on experience in troubleshooting and resolving electrical/ instrumentation control issues.
Gain knowledge of various instruments including those monitoring and controlling pressure, temperature and flow.
Develop the ability to interogate our automation monitoring systems and control hardware using equipment and systems such as SCADA/DCS/BMS/HMI's & PLC's.
Installation and Upgrades:
Assist in the installation, repair, and enhancement of electrical systems and components within the Institute's state-of-the-art facilities.

Collaboration with Engineering Teams:
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and research teams to support ongoing projects.

Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain meticulous records of electrical maintenance activities and installations.
Complete calibration reports for our on-site instrumentation.
Prepare comprehensive reports detailing completed tasks, identifying any challenges or opportunities for improvement.
Training and Skill Development:
Attend scheduled training sessions to augment your technical knowledge and skills.
Working towards a level 3 Maintenance and Operations Technician (MOET) apprenticeship standard, gaining the qualifications, skills and experience essential for a successful career in the bio-containment sector with transferable skills into similar sectors.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
As well as gaining a broad range of professional knowledge and experience, you will gain academic and vocational qualifications. The apprentice will also achieve Level 3 NVQ Diploma in engineering maintenance as well as a Level 3 sub diploma in engineering technologies.

Qualifications:
Minimum educational requirement: 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) grade 4 / C or above in Mathematics, English, and a science or technology subject.
