This Apprentice/Graduate Merchandising & Sales Executive role offers the perfect entry point into our Sales team, providing hands-on experience that will prepare you for future progression into a Territory Sales Manager role.
Purpose of the Role
As a Merchandiser, you'll work closely with our experienced Territory Managers to support the execution of in-store brand and promotional activity across independent garden centres and retail partners. You'll play a key role in bringing our products to life at the point of sale -- learning how to build impactful displays, maximise visibility, and deliver excellence in-store.
This is a developmental role designed to give you the practical skills, product knowledge, and commercial understanding to grow into a future sales manager within our business.
Key Responsibilities
Support Territory Managers by executing merchandising and promotional activity across key accounts.
Manage seasonal set-ups and returns for seeds, including full stand installations and stock merchandising.
Execute set-ups for core categories including growing media, plant feeds, lawn care, hardware, bird care, and garden chemicals.
Ensure the effective positioning of stock and branded point-of-sale (POS) materials to drive brand visibility and sales.
Deliver in-store product training to retail staff to promote knowledge of Westland's product portfolio.
Ensure merchandising standards are consistently high across all Westland categories and support event and display activity as required.
Provide feedback on in-store conditions and competitor activity.
The Person
We're seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a genuine interest in pursuing a long-term career in sales. This is a field-based role, ideal for someone who enjoys variety, being on the move, and interacting with different retail environments.
Essential Requirements:
Experience in garden centres or front facing retail experience.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
Self-motivated with a proactive approach and strong attention to detail.
Willingness to travel extensively within the designated territory.
Full UK Driving Licence (essential).
Desirable:
Any experience in retail, merchandising, or customer service (e.g. weekend work, part-time roles, student placements)
