During this 3.5-year apprenticeship programme you will learn a range of engineering skills by working on and receiving workplace-based training on maintaining and repairing our steam locomotives and diesel engines. You will also receive formal training and be supported to obtain a nationally recognized qualification through our training provider Derwent Training.
Key Responsibilities
Learn to carry out your duties safely.
Actively participate and complete the Machining Technician L3 apprentice training course.
Responsible for the quality and accuracy of your work.
Work efficiently and be productive in the work you undertake.
Responsible for the correct use and housekeeping of machinery, tools and equipment.
Take part in maintenance and restoration projects of steam and diesel locomotives and rolling stock using a wide variety of mechanical and other engineering skills, along with the safe and effective use of relevant tools and machinery as a part of the training activities.
Carry out fitting, maintenance, fabrication - plate work and machining
Person Specification
Essential:
4 GCSE's Grade 4 including Mathematics, English & a science.
Ability to Travel to work and to and from Derwent Training in Malton.
Computer Literate
Good communications and inter-personal skills
Methodical, with good attention to detail
Enthusiastic, Self-Motivated with a 'can-do' attitude
Desirable:
Experience of general engineering, workshop, or related trades.
First Aid at Work Certificate a bonus.
