About the role

The starting salary for this permanent position is \xc2\xa331,262 per annum based on a 36-hour working week.

Surrey County Council\'s Highways and Transport service is excited to be recruiting an Arboricultural Support Technician.

Your work base will be at our Merrow Depot in Guildford, with meetings and site visits across the county. We also offer agile working to enable an element of working from home, where appropriate.

About us

The Highways and Transport service is responsible for ensuring the effective management, maintenance and improvement of all highway and transport assets. This includes over two million trees on the highway network, providing strategic green infrastructure across Surrey.

This important resource provides vital ecosystem services helping to tackle climate change whilst providing support for wildlife.

About the role

This is an important customer focused role with the opportunity to make a significant positive impact on our natural environment.

Working with like-minded colleagues and reporting to the Arboricultural Team Manager, you will be supporting the team to manage an extensive network of trees and woodland on and adjacent to the highway network across Surrey. You will also be involved with our tree planting programme.

The role requires you to develop excellent relationships with colleagues, contractors and other stakeholders, including elected Members. This role will be very rewarding for the right person.

About you

While arboricultural experience is not required, we are looking for someone who is engaged with the natural environment and will have the ability to understand technical issues. You will be supported in developing a sound understanding of how to commission many works in the arboricultural field and will be required to take a pro-active and flexible approach, seeking to find practical solutions.

You will also be expected to uphold excellent customer care standards, have a positive and proactive approach, taking pride in your work.

  • Excellent communication skills and confident in dealing with a wide selection of customers
  • Excellent IT skills with an understanding of standard office software and willingness to learn bespoke packages
  • Ability to prioritise and plan own workload in the context of conflicting priorities, meet tight deadlines, and work on own initiative
  • A positive, self-motivated person with a "can do" attitude and a desire to learn and continuously improve
Highways Operations & Infrastructure operates an agile working system. This means that all Officers are required to be available when needed, with flexibility, to work from both Council offices and their home (or other suitable arrangements). All Officers will regularly work from their designated office to maintain team working, and as required by their manager. All Officers are required to make themselves available to attend site and other meetings when needed.
