Job Title: (Area) Yards Operations Manager

Multi-site (within assigned area. Based in Lasham, the area covers yards in Kent. Henfield, Hitchin)

Job Purpose

The Yards Operations Manager oversees multiple yards to ensure safe and efficient operations, as well as the readiness of equipment. This role manages yard teams, stock, assets, and budgets. It supports operational continuity through effective leadership, process compliance, and a strong focus on continuous improvement, aligning with the "Site-Equip Way."

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety

Maintain high health and safety (H&S) standards across all yards through regular audits and reporting. Enforce safety policies and promote a safety-first culture. Identify hazards and implement corrective actions.

Operational Excellence

Oversee cleaning, servicing, and preparation of hire equipment. Coordinate maintenance schedules to minimise downtime. Ensure smooth communication between the yard, office, and transport teams. Support breakdown resolution and participate in the on-call rota.

Stock & Asset Management

Lead stock control across sites, conduct audits, and minimise waste. Manage asset lifecycles, from procurement through to disposal. Recommend purchases based on operational needs and negotiate with suppliers to ensure optimal cost-effectiveness.

Budget Oversight

Manage yard budgets, monitor expenditure, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Report variances and propose corrective actions.

Team Leadership

Lead, support, and develop Yard Managers, Supervisors, and staff. Oversee training, recruitment, appraisals, and performance management. Foster a positive team culture that aligns with company values. Management On-Call Rota

Customer Service

Ensure all equipment meets quality standards on delivery. Resolve customer issues in coordination with internal teams to ensure seamless customer service. Actively respond to feedback to drive service improvements.

Process Improvement & Compliance

Champion the "Site-Equip Way" across all yards. Drive consistency through the effective use of Syrinx and standardised processes. Propose and implement improvements to workflows and yard operations. Ensure full compliance with company policies and industry regulations.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

Multi-site management experience, preferably in logistics, hiring, or operations. Strong leadership, mentoring, and people management skills. Knowledge of H&S legislation and compliance. Proficient in stock and asset management systems (e.g., Syrinx). Strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational abilities. Supplier negotiation experience.

Desirable:

Experience in equipment hire or a similar industry. Familiarity with operational software/reporting tools. Mechanical or technical understanding of hire equipment.

Working Conditions

Travel is required between yards within the assigned region. Mix of office-based and hands-on yard work. On-Call Rota Fire On-Call Rota Some weekend and out-of-hours support will be provided as needed.

Pay: 33,000.00-37,500.00 per year
