Argive Software Engineer

Kidlington, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Company overview

Alloyed is a young venture-funded company of about 180 world-class metallurgists, engineers, and software developers working across 3 sites in the UK, 1 in Japan, and 1 in Seattle to build the future of advanced metal components. To do this it uses proprietary software packages which combine advanced machine learning and physical modelling to invent better alloys, devise better ways to process them, and design better 3D-printed components.

The Role

Alloyed is currently designing microturbine engines in a variety of sizes and specifications for a range of jet propulsion applications. Alloyed is using additive manufacturing (AM) to increase performance over current state-of-the-art by leveraging more complex designs enabled by AM and bespoke high temperature materials. Alongside the mechanical design work, Alloyed is building a software suite to consolidate off-the-shelf and internally developed engineering tooling into a single platform. The platform will be used internally to quickly explore AM micro turbine designs, both to improve performance and to rapidly scale to meet the demand for new applications.

Alloyed is seeking a motivated software engineer to support building this platform. The role involves close collaboration with aerothermal designers to productionise and generalise existing internal code and wrap commercial simulation tools into C++/C# modules. Finally, integrating the modules with automated workflows through a cloud compute infrastructure, automating our design processes.

You will primarily be based at Alloyed's manufacturing site in Abingdon, collaborating closely with the mechanical engineering teams, reporting to the Head of Platform Development. A highly competitive remuneration package is offered, including equity incentives

Responsibilities

Design, develop and maintain modules within Alloyed's design platform Integrating modules into a secure, cloud-based compute platform Work within a young, fast-paced, agile development team in collaboration with aerothermal and mechanical engineers and technicians Define and implement software solutions to automate existing manual workflows Work collaboratively to solve complex problems with innovative solutions

Essential

Strong technical background with a degree in science, engineering or computer science (2:1 minimum) Proficient in the use of C# or C++ and Python Excellent understanding of software design patterns, best practices and principles Highly effective communicator who encourages innovation through collaboration Natural problem-solver with a desire to learn Organised and self-motivated, able to own and independently manage large projects

Desirable

Familiarity with:

Full stack development including Vue3, Typescript and Django AWS EKS deployments Machine learning model development Agentic AI pipeline development
Some understanding on mechanical design processes and tools, specifically FEA and CFD for aerothermal design. Including a basic understanding of turbo machinery operating principles.

The ideal candidate would have 2-5 years of commercial software development following an engineering degree. They would be able to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced team tackling previously unsolved challenges.

How to Apply

To apply, submit a CV and a supporting statement by email to jobs@alloyed.com. The supporting statement should explain how you meet the selection criteria for the role using examples of your skills and any experience. All documents should be uploaded as PDF files. Please provide details of two referees and indicate if we can contact them now.

This is a continuous recruitment effort. We will fill positions as excellent candidates present themselves so your early application is encouraged.
