The Role
We're seeking an enthusiastic team member to join our small gallery and gain valuable experience in the arts sector. This role would particularly suit a student or recent graduate, though we welcome applications from anyone looking to develop their career in a gallery environment.
This is initially two day per week position (including Saturdays) minimum with increased hours over the busy Christmas period and potential for ongoing employment.
As Gallery Assistant, you'll be involved in all aspects of running the gallery and will become the face of Gower Gallery to our visitors. This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills in arts administration, customer service, visual merchandising, and the day-to-day operations of a creative business.
Key Responsibilities
Welcoming visitors and providing knowledgeable, friendly customer service
Processing sales and handling till operations
Taking bespoke framing orders
Installing exhibitions and creating engaging displays
Maintaining the gallery space to high standards of presentation
Updating social media platforms (training provided)
Building relationships with customers, many of whom are regular visitors
Liaising with artists and suppliers
Supporting the Gallery Manager with projects as needed
Essential Requirements
Genuine interest in art and contemporary craft
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Confident, personable approach with customers
Computer literacy and willingness to learn new systems
Reliable, punctual, and well-presented
Able to work Saturdays
Desirable Skills
Eye for visual merchandising and display
Social media experience
Basic graphic design skills
Previous retail or customer service experience
