JOB PURPOSE
Pitsford School is a co-educational independent school for pupils aged 3 - 18 years old. The school offers a very attractive working environment based in delightful rural parkland setting of some 30 acres close to Northampton centre.
SUMMARY OF THE ROLE
The main responsibility is to provide support to teachers in the Art Department and to liaise with other staff in order to ensure the efficient running of the Departments day-to-day programme of varied timetabled lessons and extra-curricular activities.
Duties include supporting lesson delivery, possible delivering of some lessons as needed, the preparation of equipment required for lessons, ordering & collection of art materials, organisation of equipment storage and art supplies, ensuring equipment across the department works correctly, framing of pupil art, display of artwork around the school and exhibitions as required. It is envisaged that duties will be conducted on the basis of their given priority and with assistance from the Head of Art.
Within this context, the Art Technician will be a committed and professional member of the team in Pitsford School, enhance the excellent reputation of the Art department. They will be someone with a can-do attitude, drive, flair, a team-spirit and patience. Although preferred, the successful candidate need not hold an Art Degree though an interest and ability in Art and in practical skills is important.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall direction of the Headmaster but line-managed by the Head of Art, the post holder's responsibilities are:
Supporting practical lessons when required
Delivering some pre-planned lessons if required
Display and rotation of Artwork around the School.
Helping with Exhibitions and Art events
Maintenance and upkeep of studio spaces and delegated equipment across the department
Play a role in the extra-curricular life of the Department, practical assistance in contributing to off-timetable workshops, activities etc.
Ordering of Art Materials, helping with their delivery, auditing such material.
Assisting with practical help in the lead up to whole school exhibitions, moderation displays and with storage of pupil work
Make a positive contribution to the Department, i.e. attending weekly departmental meetings and undertaking other mutual tasks (within reason) as delegated by the Head of Art and the Headmaster
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The role involves some evening and weekend work; for example, Open Days take place on Saturdays
To work within health and safety guidelines and other guidelines that may be issued from time to time
To attend any relevant training courses as identified and agreed
To undertake such duties appropriate to the post as may from time to time be required to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the school
PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education and Qualifications
Essential - Good level of education, to include at least Grade C or above in English and Maths
Desirable - Degree or Diploma in Art or an Art related field
Experience and Knowledge
Essential - Experience in Art, including a good knowledge of art materials and equipment
Essential - Understanding of relative order and tidiness in Art studios
Desirable - Experience of working within an Art department in a School environment
