About the role



The main purpose of this role is threefold:


To personally deliver asbestos surveys and other asbestos related project work in accordance with agreed quality standards and productivity targets. To assist in retrospective QA Survey audits and first-hand Quality Assessment Audits. To manage a team of field based staff, and associates and ensure they deliver asbestos surveys and other asbestos related project work in accordance with agreed quality standards and productivity targets.
In conjunction with the Operations Manager - Asbestos and through effective supervision of the field based staff and associates - you will ensure that all client works are delivered in accordance with contractual requirements and to the required level of quality.


This role will be a significant fee earning role within the asbestos team, with approximately 60% to 80% of available time spent delivering asbestos surveys and other asbestos related work on site.

Role Responsibilities / Objectives



This role will make a significant contribution to the operational and commercial performance of the asbestos team.


You will generate fees through the personal delivery of analytical work, asbestos surveys and other asbestos related project work.


You will directly manage a number of field based asbestos surveyors, analysts and sub-contracted associates deployed on our contracts.


Working collaboratively and proactively with the Operations Manager (Asbestos) and all teams within the asbestos service you will ensure an integrated approach to service delivery, which delivers our key business objectives and targets and our service plan objectives and targets, and delivers clients' contractual requirements. You will foster good relations between the surveying team and rest of the business.


Responsibilities include:

Operational Performance

- you will ensure the achievement of all agreed quality standards of your team in order to support the delivery of key business objectives, service plan objectives and contractual obligations with all clients. You will play a key role in ensuring strong relationships between all functions of the asbestos service, ensure your team is responsive to others' enquiries and ensure a 'first time right' approach.

Line Management

- you will line manage a team of field staff, and be responsible for the performance delivery of our associate pool. You will provide effective management and ensure line management activities are delivered to a consistently high standard. This will include onboarding, induction, training, auditing, setting of objectives, on going management, including regular 1to1s and performance management/reviews and off boarding

Supervision of Trainees

- you will be responsible for the onboarding and day to day management and auditing of all trainees. Supported by the Operations Manager - Quality and Training you will ensure they receive the appropriate opportunities and training and to ensure they succeed in qualifying to undertake surveying and analytical work.

Team resourcing

- you will work with the Operations Manager - Asbestos to ensure a fair and robust approach to talent acquisition for the asbestos field team.

Team communications

- you will check in regularly with all team members - eg via 1-1 calls, and schedule regular opportunities for sharing of knowledge in toolbox talks and team briefings, building a cohesive team culture.

Inter-team communications

- You will play a key role in ensuring strong relationships between all functions of the asbestos function working together with the Operations Manager - Client Delivery to ensure the field team work cohesively with the other functions of the asbestos business, providing a two way process for feedback and continuous improvements

Quality Control

- you will manage the field based staff, including associates in ensuring we remain consistently and fully up to date with asbestos legislation, guidance and industry best practice including UKAS accreditation and quality management arrangements and relevant legislation including Health and Safety. You will ensure attention to detail and high levels of quality in all asbestos related work and embed this with all members of your team.

Auditing

- supported by the Operations Manager- Quality and Training, you will deliver a robust auditing process and instil a compliance culture with the field based team, including associates. You will undertake an agreed number of monthly quality assurance audits of field based staff, including associates to support our approach to quality control and ensure that learning is applied and embedded from audit results. You will conduct thorough audits with full integrity in all cases and report all findings within our required timescales to the Operations Manager- Quality and Training.

Health & Safety

- you will embed a strong health and safety culture within the field-based team, including associates through appropriate induction and ongoing training and briefings. You will also ensure all aspects of our health and safety framework are implemented and adhered to.

Information Technology

- working with the Systems &Training Coordinator you will assist field based staff with their day to day IT requirements; delivering on site support to ensure they can carry out their work effectively.

Management Information

- you will utilise standardised monthly management information produced to make interventions as required to drive quality standards and drive levels of productivity.

Customer Relationship Management

-You will provide an operational point of client contact as and when required and in support of the Operations Manager -Asbestos when required.

Commercial Performance

- you will contribute to the achievement of all agreed financial performance targets (turnover, gross profit and net profit) through the achievement of agreed productivity targets for you and for your asbestos team, aligned with specific contractual requirements of each client.

Complex Projects

-you will be involved with the on-site delivery of more complex asbestos projects as and when required.

Previous line management/supervisory experience or line management qualification/training or willingness to undertake same

Functional / Technical Skills: Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment. Experience of use a tablet and asbestos management software eg TEAMs/Alpha Tracker software would be advantageous. IT literate with experience of using MS Outlook and Teams.
