Aspiring Psychologist: Classroom-Based SEMH Support Role
Make a Real Impact Supporting Young Minds Recover and Thrive
Summary
Are you an aspiring psychologist with a passion for supporting young people affected by trauma and social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH)? This is an opportunity to step into a school-based role where your understanding of behaviour, empathy, and resilience can truly change lives.
The Role
A specialist SEMH school is seeking a compassionate and committed individual to join their team immediately. This long-term role is ideal for someone looking to gain meaningful experience with young people in a therapeutic and educational environment.
You'll work 1:1 and in small nurture groups, supporting students who have experienced significant adversity. From guiding them through structured lessons to encouraging participation in alternative, creative activities, you'll help re-engage learners and promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
Acting as a consistent, caring presence, you'll collaborate with teachers and pastoral teams to build trust, reinforce routines, and create a safe space where students feel understood and valued.

You'll need:
Experience working with young people with SEMH and/or trauma
A calm, nurturing, and adaptable approach
Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence
Confidence in managing dysregulated behaviour
The ability to work across different student age groups if needed
The School
The school provides a therapeutic learning environment tailored to students with complex emotional needs. Staff share a nurturing ethos with a focus on relational support and positive behaviour strategies. You'll be part of a close-knit team who value collaboration, consistency, and care.
