Assessment Administrator

Saffron Walden, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

The National Council for the Training of Journalists has an exciting opportunity for an administrator to join its awarding organisation team.

The NCTJ is the UK media industry's journalism training charity, awarding organisation and training provider.

We are passionate about high standards of journalism and the importance of best practice. This could be your chance to help us ensure our qualifications are administered to the highest professional standards. It is an exciting time to be joining the NCTJ as we continue to broaden our customer base and grow our business. The NCTJ has pioneered the delivery of assessments in an online format and during the pandemic introduced the opportunity for candidates to sit their exams at home.

In return for your commitment and hard work, we will provide a competitive salary, a great working environment and we will help you develop your skills and expertise.

Key responsibilities

The administrator will be responsible for the efficient organisation of NCTJ exams and assessments. This will involve administering registrations, applications and enrolments, exams, results and certificates, reports, processing orders and other general administration tasks and communications. You will also support the work of the awarding organisation team.

Skills and experience

The ideal candidates will already have excellent administration skills but we also welcome those who are enthusiastic and willing to learn. It is really important that our team members have great integrity and can be completely trusted with confidential information about our learners and trainers. You need to be well-organised, efficient and able to work quickly and accurately under pressure to strict deadlines. All NCTJ staff must have an excellent standard of English and writing ability as well as digital and IT skills. We are looking for people with good interpersonal skills as you will be dealing with our customers who come from all walks of life.

Remuneration and benefits

For this full-time post the NCTJ offers a salary of c25,000 (depending on experience) with regular salary reviews and further training and career development opportunities.

Other benefits include 25 days of paid holiday per annum, company bonus scheme, free life cover and a matched pension contribution of five per cent of salary.

Working environment

The NCTJ has a friendly working environment with a team-working and goal-orientated culture. All our team members are committed to achieving high standards and implementing new ways of working. We are flexible and adaptable to change. We promote work-life balance and support staff who have family responsibilities and particular needs.

Reporting to the senior assessment manager, the successful candidate will work closely with other members of the assessment team and will liaise with our centres, candidates and employers.

The role is normally based at the NCTJ's offices in Newport, Saffron Walden, Essex.

How to apply

To apply for this role, please submit your CV and a covering letter, detailing why you would like to be considered for the position, to Alison Puttock, NCTJ senior assessment manager.

Applications should be submitted by the closing date of Friday, 1 August 2025.
