We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to support a growing finance team. Supporting the Financial Controller, this role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate financial records, driving process improvements, and ensuring the finance function operates efficiently. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in ledger processes with the ambition and capability to support broader accounting and reporting functions.
What you will be doing:
Month-End & Financial Support
Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, and journal entries
Help maintain the integrity of the general ledger
Support balance sheet reconciliations and analysis
Aid in cash flow forecasting and reporting
Assist in budgeting and forecasting cycles
Purchase Ledger Oversight
Oversee day-to-day purchase ledger processes, ensuring invoices are entered, approved, and reconciled timely
Act as the first escalation point for supplier queries, overdue items, and accounts that require further attention
Review and approve supplier payment runs
Ensure supplier account reconciliations are accurate and up to date
Audit & Compliance
Support audit preparations by providing timely, accurate documentation
Assist in maintaining internal controls across the finance function
Help ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Liaise with commercial, operations, and procurement teams to align finance processes
Provide ad hoc reporting and financial insight as required
Support continuous improvement projects within the finance department
What we ask from you:
AAT Level 4 qualified or Finance-related degree
Strong knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and purchase ledger processes
Prior experience in a finance role, ideally with exposure to both transactional and reporting activities
Experience using accounting software (Sage and/or similar ERP systems)
Strong Excel skills
High attention to detail and strong numerical skills
Proactive and organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate across teams
Willingness to learn and develop within a growing finance team
Ability to take ownership of tasks
