The Post:



We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Assistant Accountant to join our dedicated Finance Team.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Assistant Accountant will work closely with the Finance Manager and Finance Officer to administer all financial activities within the College.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an important department where you will be an integral part of the team and have the opportunity to gain experience across the whole of the finance function.

Key Duties:



To assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations. To manage monthly journal postings, including prepayments and accruals. To complete bank reconciliations and postings. To complete company credit card reconciliations. To prepare reports for budget holders across the College, to assist them in managing their own budgets and understanding expenditure. To complete year-end tasks to assist with the annual audit. To use a variety of electronic financial systems to effectively manage all incoming and outgoing money in the College and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled. To undertake various other ad hoc projects / reporting to support the efficient and effective running of the department, to support the wider College.

Key Qualities and Person Specification:



The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills, experiences, and qualities:

Essential Experience, Qualifications and Skills:



AAT Qualification Level 4, or part-qualified accountant / be actively studying towards an accountancy qualification, e.g. CIMA / ACCA.

Minimum of five GCSE's (including English and Maths) grade A - C (or equivalent).

A solid understanding of accounting principles.

Substantial experience in a similar role.

Experience of accounting procedures within sales / purchase ledger.

Good Excel spreadsheet skills and previous experience using accounting software.

Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, problem solving skills, and ability to multitask.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, and an ability to work with and explain confidential and/or sensitive matters and contractual terms to colleagues and customers.

A reliable and positive team player, willing to collaborate with, and support, other members of the finance team, and whole College staff body, and with the ability to work independently and on own initiative.

Committed to life-long learning, with an open mind and a willingness to promote new initiatives.

Willingness to be flexible with working hours to respond to the needs of the College.

Desirable Experience and Skills:



Experience of working within the education sector, or for a charity, in a similar role would be desirable, but is not essential.

Salary:



The salary for this position is 34,983 - 37,136 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

Please note that the above salary based on a full time contract, working 37.5 hours per week, on a full year basis (i.e. term time and school holidays).

Please note that the salary above would be pro-rated accordingly for part time hours.

During school holidays, there is the possibility of working from home for some of the time, subject to practicalities and the needs of the department.
