Whilst our 850 strong team of veterinary professionals are out in the field ensuring animal welfare standards are met within the UK and that the meat is safe to enter the food chain, we have a team of 60 Central Support heroes back at our Leeds head office that cover the central support functions.





We are looking for a diligent and hardworking individual for the role of

Assistant Accountant

within our Finance team.



The role will report directly to the Financial Controller and the ideal applicant must show good levels of resourcefulness, knowledge, and motivation. The candidate must be an excellent communicator - demonstrating both effective verbal and written communications skills.


What you will be doing:






Assisting Purchase Ledger function with supplier postings and scrutinising employee expenses. Assisting Sales Ledger function with customer invoicing, queries, and aged debt recovery. Manage employee recharging - e.g. motor fines or damages, liaising with colleagues, fleet department and lessor. Month end journals and assisting in the creation of management accounts. Assisting with VAT record keeping and HMRC submissions. Nominal ledger reviews, including payroll. Exception reporting on timesheets submitted by field staff. Analysis of timesheets for producing Key Performance Indicators used by senior management, including assistance with regional and revenue stream profitability reporting. Fixed Asset Register postings and review. Assist with annual statutory audit. Assist with inter group transactions. Cashbook entering and payments management, including pre-paid card system. Liaising with key stakeholders within the business; including assisting with data submissions to group. Support Divisional Finance activities, covering the above for other entities within the Division.

You should have/be:






Exceptional attention to detail. Good time management skills, consistently meeting strict month-end deadlines. Proficient in computer systems, including Sage 50 Accounts and Microsoft Excel. Able to demonstrate a professional manner. A strong team player with a collaborative approach. Friendly, articulate, and confident when communicating by phone.

This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. Although primarily office based (LS15 8ZB), there will be some flexibility to hybrid/remote working.
