This role sits within the Finance Centre of Expertise, supporting the Octopus Inheritance Tax Services ("OITS") division--an exciting portfolio with over 3bn in assets under management across lending, energy, housebuilding, and fibre.


You'll join the OITS Finance team, with a primary focus on Fern, one of our key investment areas. As Assistant Accountant, you'll work closely with multiple Accountants, taking ownership of elements of management, statutory, and regulatory reporting. You'll also play a hands-on role in the day-to-day operations of the funds, gaining exposure to a diverse range of financial activities and contributing to the success of a high-impact team

The Team




You'll be part of the wider Finance team, working within a team of 8. The team is dynamic and fast-paced, offering a diverse and engaging environment. The team you will be working with are busy and diverse. To excel in this role, it is essential that you're proactive, keen to learn, focused, self-motivated and able to work under deadlines.

What you will be doing?




Commercial Responsibilities

Build and maintain a strong understanding of the OITS portfolio and its core areas: lending, energy, housebuilding, and fibre. Develop a broad awareness of other Octopus OITS funds. Foster effective working relationships with the Senior Accountant, Investment Operations, Company Secretariat, and other internal and external teams to ensure smooth fund management.

Reporting Responsibilities

Prepare month-end journals and management accounts, including management fee calculations and balance sheet reconciliations (e.g. accruals, prepayments, interest). Manage the Fern invoice inbox, ensuring invoices are accurately recorded, paid, and recharged. Post cash journals across multiple entities. Prepare invoices, post group recharges, and maintain intercompany reconciliations. Assist in preparing board reports and interim/annual accounts. Support other month-end tasks as needed.

Other Key Responsibilities

Liaise with auditors and provide requested information. Process invoices for payment. Prepare VAT returns. Provide support to other OITS entities as required. Respond to ad hoc queries as they arise.


Qualifications



Part qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA or equivalent) Financial services experience desirable but not essential. Proven track record of delivering results. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly build relationships within their team and across departments. Comfortable working individually on projects or collaboratively within a team, and someone who will be able to demonstrate strong organisational skills to manage multiple workstreams
