Assistant Buyer / Buyer (Materials)
to join our friendly and fast-paced head office team in Hessle.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in purchasing, buying or materials supply, especially in concrete, aggregates, or civils products, who wants to take the next step in a commercial role.

What you'll do:
Procure construction materials and related services for all operational sectors
Prepare Excel price comparison sheets to secure best value for every contract
Monitor market trends, product developments and supply chain initiatives, engaging proactively with external partners
Develop and maintain supplier relationships to ensure a right first-time service, with a focus on safety, quality, programme, commercial aspects and overall best value
Support internal business needs, promoting commercial and product awareness to deliver major programme requirements
Maintain continuous communication with team members to review contract progress and resolve issues promptly
Ensure full understanding and application of purchasing strategies and processes to maintain a professional and auditable procurement record
Resolve delivery discrepancies by comparing purchase orders with delivery documentation, obtaining credits and refunds where necessary
Obtain relevant health and safety and material information to compile hand-back files at project completion
Identify and engage new suppliers to enhance our supply chain. Updating the Pre-Approved Supply Chain database to ensure records remain current.
Working in accordance with company ISO 45001, 14001, and 9001 procurement standards, particularly supporting the Procurement Manager with ensuring allappointed supply chain partners, all pre-approved and checking that their insurance policy cover is relevant and valid.
What you'll need:
Experience in buying, procurement orconstruction materials supply
Strong admin and IT skills (especially Excel) and fantastic attention to detail
A proactive and confident approach to communication
Desire to build a long-term career in purchasing
