To assist in maintaining Newhaven Town Council's offices and social centres to a high standard of cleanliness and repair.
To assist in ensuring that the Town Council's outdoor spaces are maintained to a high standard.
To assist in ensuring that information on Town Council noticeboards is always up to date.

Key Accountabilities:
The post-holder will be expected to assist carrying out the following duties:
Offices and Social Centres:
Day to day routine cleaning of the Town Council's offices and social centres
Occasional call outs to clean a social centre between users at weekends
Occasional call outs to unlock/lock the Town Council offices and other buildings when they are used for evening meetings
Emergency call out duties making all necessary decisions to prevent further damage to property or injury to persons
Visual checks of the Town Council's offices and social centres to identify maintenance and repair work required
General weeding, litter picking and tidying of the forecourt to the Town Council offices and the back garden
General repairs, maintenance (including plumbing works) and redecorating of the Town Council's offices and social centres
Where specialist repair by an outside contractor is required, to draw this to the attention of the Town Clerk or Executive Officer
Ensuring that the Town Council's social centres are kept stocked with cleaning equipment and supplies
Carry out all Portable Appliance Testing (training given) on an annual basis.
Outdoor Spaces:
Visual checks of the Town Council's outdoor spaces to ensure that the grounds maintenance contractor is performing well and to identify defects and repair and maintenance work required
Weekly playground inspections at the Town Council's play areas (for which training will be given)
General repairs and maintenance at the Town Council's outdoor spaces, including simple play equipment repairs
Where specialist repair by an outside contractor is required, drawing this to the attention of the Town Clerk or Executive Officer
Visits to the Town Council's noticeboards as required to remove out of date information and put up new information.

The post-holder will be expected:
To hold a full driving licence without 'penalty points' and ideally live within a 10 mile radius of Newhaven
To wear all corporate logo'd clothing provided by the council and at all times wear the provided 'security/GPS FOB' whilst undertaking their work, keeping the FOB fully charged at all times
To treat members of the public and users of the Town Council's facilities with courtesy and respect during all interactions
To maintain contact and communication with the office during normal working hours using the mobile telephone provided by the Town Council
To carry the mobile telephone provided out of hours for emergency call outs
To uphold Newhaven Town Council's Health and Safety requirements, particularly by following agreed codes of practice and safe methods of working
To fulfil personal responsibilities with regard to Newhaven Town Council's Health & Safety and Risk Policies
To familiarise themselves with and adhere to all the relevant policies and procedures of the Town Council
To commit to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice
To use the electric vehicle provided by the Council whilst undertaking their work activities and to ensure that is kept clean, fully charged and report any damage to the vehicle, ancillary tools or equipment to the Town Clerk/Executive Officer.

All staff will therefore be expected to have a flexible attitude in responding to new priorities and opportunities as they arise.
Hours per week:
37 hours a week worked principally Monday to Friday. There will be a need to occasionally work evenings, at weekends or on public holidays for which time off in lieu will be given.

At the Town Council's social centres, offices and outdoor spaces across Newhaven.
Contract term:
Permanent after successful completion of a probationary period of an initial six months.
