Stack London are on the lookout for a permanent hands-on Assistant Design/Technical Manager to join their thriving team based in our London office based near Farringdon EC1N. Stack London is a vibrant Principal Contracting and Construction Management company specialising in the design and delivery of residential and mixed-use developments.

Job Specification



Stack London are seeking to employ an Assistant Design/Technical Manager to Assist our Design Lead in the management of the design process from contract agreement stage and site start, through to project completion. Where possible the Assistant Design/Technical Manager will assist in the management of the design from "full detailed instruction" stage and would be involved in the bid process. This is made possible by the fact that the majority of our work is negotiated and with repeat clients.

Technical Attributes



The candidate must possess the following:

Essential



1. Excellent design knowledge of residential projects, working for a reputable Architect, Principal or Main contractor.

2. Experience gained in an Assistant design management related position on design and build projects in excess of 5M.

3. Technical architectural or site experience background.

4. Proven experience of working closely with professional consultants.

5. Understanding of the design development process.

6. Construction/ design experience.

7. Experience of forging strong working relationships with internal and external customers.

8. Working knowledge of Building Regulations / NHBC and other good practice design guidance.

9. Good IT skills particularly Microsoft word/excel.

10. Excellent planning and programming skills.

Desirable



1. Experience within concrete frame design.

2. Understanding of MEP design and it's co-ordination within project design.

3. Site construction / engineering experience.

4. A professional qualification

Role Overview



The Assistant Design Manager is a key member of the project delivery team, working alongside our Design Lead, Project Surveyors, Project Managers, and Construction Managers, with overall leadership from a Project Director.

The post holder will assist in the design management across up to

three projects

(depending on size and complexity), with projects typically delivering a combined annual turnover of around

15 million

.

This role will assist the design process from contract agreement and site start through to project completion. Where possible, involvement begins at the full detailed instruction stage and extends into the bid/pre-construction process, particularly on negotiated frameworks and repeat-client work.

Detailed Job Profile



Core Responsibilities



Attend briefing meetings with the Development Team as part of design handover. Review drawing information and project particulars at inception. Prepare design programmes, information release schedules, client choice schedules, and procurement schedules. Arrange and participate in design meetings with architects, structural engineers, M&E designers, Specialist subcontractors, and other consultants. Assist design consultants to ensure timely information delivery in line with programme requirements. Attend design meetings with clients to confirm design strategies and client approvals/ choices. Liaise directly with clients to review and approve drawings and project information to programme. Assist in the design approval process for all consultants, subcontract designers, and material suppliers. Control drawing management and ensure accurate, timely distribution of design information. Oversee internal and external design sign-off processes and manage production of specialist design--both subcontract and material-based. Assist in the M&E design development, seeking technical approval where required from Stack's internal M&E department. Assist in the completion of all procurement responsibilities as identified in the procurement schedule. Assist in the management of design changes and instruction notifications. Utilise standard documents in the production of detailed design information. Attend monthly site meetings and project reviews. Assist Building Control engagement and ensure coordinated submissions from all consultants. Liaise with the Design Lead and architect to manage statutory approvals and associated authority processes.

Managing & Assisting Responsibilities



Support the client in achieving CSCI registration where applicable. Assist in producing building manuals and O&M documentation. Prepare and coordinate mock-up rooms/flats for client approval. Monitor construction works to ensure alignment with design and client choices. Provide continuous feedback to the Development Team to support design improvements. Liaise with subcontractors and Site Managers to resolve construction and design issues.

Work in accordance with Stack's policies, procedures, Purpose, and Values. Demonstrate ongoing commitment to personal and professional development. Use "View for Projects" (VFP) and ACC for all shared design correspondence. Undertake other duties as reasonably requested, consistent with the role's level and responsibilities.

The company are happy to discuss individual requirements based on experience but are looking to offer:

35,000 - 45,000pa

20 days annual leave + bank holidays (+1 every year up to 25 days)

The ability to understand and achieve client and customer satisfaction is a key ingredient to the post. Understanding client and customer requirements, listening to concerns and discerning when action needs to be taken are also an essential part of the role.

The Assistant Technical/Design Manager will manage both consultant and client design meetings. The Assistant Technical/Design Manager will participate in regular project based meetings with the rest of the project team.

Working Environment



This post is based at The Record Hall, near Hatton Gardens. However, frequent visits to the projects under their management are required resulting in travel to and from office to site.
