Post No. POSN003846 - Assistant Educational Psychologist
Newport Educational Psychology Service (EPS) is looking to recruit an enthusiastic assistant educational psychologist on a fixed term contract to work as part of our friendly team. The role will form part of the EPS's offer of support to schools and families around emotional based school avoidance (EBSA).
We are interested in applications from psychology graduates with graduate basis for registration (GBR) with the BPS who have experience working with children and young people in education, social or health care services. You will need to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of young people whose access to education is affected by social, emotional or mental health needs. Knowledge of the ALN Code for Wales is also desirable.
Working as an Assistant EP in the area of EBSA will include supporting Newport schools to develop additional learning provision for pupils who are non-attending due to EBSA. This will include engaging with pupils and their families to identify their needs and sharing this information with schools to inform planning and intervention. You will have a key role in developing the EPS's offer of support to parents of pupils with EBSA and of delivering training to key staff within Newport schools.
Newport EPS Offers:
A small, friendly and supportive team with regular team meetings and supervision.
A program of induction activities and access to EBSA training to ensure that you have the knowledge and skills to carry out the role effectively.
The opportunity to acquire a range of skills and experience in preparation for professional training as an Educational Psychologist.
Hybrid working arrangements which include a combination of remote working, visits to schools and pupil homes and an office base with regular face-to-face team meetings.
Systemic level work within schools supporting the implementation of universal, targeted and specific interventions for pupils experiencing EBSA.
Collaborative working with the Education Welfare Service, as well as with colleagues from social care and health services.
The ability to communicate in Welsh, both spoken and written, is a desirable requirement for this role.
