Newport Educational Psychology Service (EPS) is looking to recruit an enthusiastic assistant educational psychologist on a fixed term contract to work as part of our friendly team. The role will form part of the EPS's offer of support to mainstream Newport schools in developing their inclusive practice in the early years.



We are interested in applications from psychology graduates with graduate basis for registration (GBR) with the BPS who have experience of working with young children in education, social or health care services. You will need to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of children with social communication differences/ autism and learning differences. Previous training in, and experience of using, Intensive Interaction approaches in a specialist setting, is essential. Knowledge of the ALN Code for Wales is also desirable.



Working as an Assistant EP in the early years will involve delivering training, modelling Intensive Interaction approaches and providing ongoing support to 10 Newport schools to implement interaction and communication approaches in their schools. As part of this process, the Assistant EP will support monitoring of school implementation and evaluation of this pilot. The role will also involve developing resources and guidance in collaboration with key partners to promote mainstream inclusion of children with significant social communication and interaction needs across Newport.



Newport EPS Offers:




A small, friendly and supportive team with regular team meetings and supervision. A program of induction activities and access to training on social communication and interaction to ensure that you have the knowledge and skills to carry out the role effectively. The opportunity to shadow EPs and acquire a range of skills and experience in preparation for professional training as an Educational Psychologist. Hybrid working arrangements which include a combination of remote working, visits to schools and an office base with regular face-to-face team meetings. Systemic level work within schools supporting the implementation of universal, targeted and specific interventions for children with social communication and interaction difficulties. Collaborative working with a range of educational professionals, as well as with colleagues from health services.


The ability to communicate in Welsh, both spoken and written, is a desirable requirement for this role.
