We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Assistant Engineer to join our Consulting Rail team. With shared office space in Birmingham, Derby, York, Bristol, Manchester, and Cardiff, we welcome applications from Assistant Engineers across these regions



Amey Consulting are an appointed Design partner on some of the biggest and most intricate rail infrastructure projects across the UK including Wales & Borders. Supporting our growing Engineering team, delivering work on our major projects such as Northern Power House Rail, Eastern Routes Partnership, North West & Central framework, Core Valley Lines, Trans-Pennine Route Upgrade and Cardiff Crossrail. Our in house engineers deliver design across all NR stages and all rail disciplines improving connectivity, bringing better journeys to passengers, and engineering the future of rail safety and efficiency.

The role







Our Assistant Engineers play an important part within the Consulting Rail Design team and alongside our clients, including Network Rail. As an Assistant Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Senior Engineer and Design Team Leader on a variety of rail design schemes.



Responsibilities include:


To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme Support effective health and safety practices within the team



What you will bring to us:






Successful completion of a Degree Apprenticeship programme or an employer led early careers development programme, with a degree of progress through a programme of initial professional development leading towards Incorporated or Chartered status. Able to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working without significant supervision and moving towards overseeing more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks Experienced in following procedures associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey's Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations Has knowledge and understanding of technical and specification processes and is starting to take ownership for the production of deliverables with appropriate supervision Good competence with relevant software and similar analytical tools Has a basic understanding of CDM and risk assessment. Experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects Demonstrates a basic understanding of the different interfaces on projects Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject
